Presidents in 1950s • Truman (Fair Deal) • Raised minimum wage • Expanded Social Security • National housing Act – 800,000 low income houses • Eisenhower (New Deal) • Business is vital to the nation • Attacked federal aid to businesses (creeping socialism) • Federal Highway Act ($25 billion for 40,000 miles)

  8. Technology • Computers created – ease and efficiency • Medical Miracles • Drugs to fight sickness and diseases • Surgeries!!! • Jonas Salk develops polio vaccine and saves millions of children
