3. Level 1 • A quadrant bearing of S73°W is equivalent to a true bearing of 253°. • Geometric vectors have both magnitude and direction but Cartesian vectors have only magnitude. • Unit vectors have a magnitude of one but no direction. • If AB and CD have the same magnitude but opposite direction, then AB = - DC. • A quadrant bearing of S53°W is equivalent to a true bearing of 233°. • A vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction.

4. Level 2 • A 50 N force is applied at 25° to the vertical. Write this force as a linear combination of the unit vectors. • A vector extends from the origin to the point (5, 8). Find the angle that the vector makes with the positive x-axis.

5. Level 2

6. Level 3

7. Level 3 Two forces, with magnitudes 200 N and 95 N, act on an object at 15° to one another. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force acting on the object

8. Level 3

9. Level 4

10. Level 3

11. Level 4 Jojowishes to swim from one side of a river, which has a current speed of 2 km/h, to a point on the other side directly opposite from the starting point. She can swim at a speed of 3 km/h in still water. • At what angle to the bank should Jojoswim if she wishes to swim directly across? • If the river has a width of 300 m. How long will it take for her to cross the river?

12. Level 4

13. Required Before Next Class • Review your notes for the whole chapter • Complete unfinished homework • Check the website for updates (or stay tuned on Facebook as to when I make updates on the website) • Add me on Facebook, Peter Bishop, but be sure to send a message along with it indicating which class you are in, and what section. • Join the Facebook group for Calculus and Vectors
