    6. QCML - Vision and Purpose To provide advanced manufacturing process development and associated training which will assure the sustainability of the Rock Island Arsenal/JMTC (Joint Manufacturing & Technology center) and regional Manufacturing base. To provide a forum for regional educational institutions to align, participate and innovate solutions key to manufacturing success. To invite many business partners and construct alliances that bring advanced technology and business opportunity to the region. To enable new and sustainable technology jobs. To become widely known as: “The Technology and Talent Gateway” to the mid-west.

    17. QCML – Education Concept

    18. QCML and Educator’s Forum There is a need for us to draw together Our purpose requires us to construct alliances that work for Jobs & Skills There is a need to instill interest in ages 7 thru 17 High Schools and Colleges need to support Technology Programs (i.e. Project Lead the Way) Universities play a big role in recognizing that ‘hands on skills’ are an important GAP to be filled Universities are essential to the R&D efforts of QCML Key enabler to Pathways=‘jobs retention & jobs creation’

    19. QCML - University Topics Titanium Welding Titanium Forming Titanium Cutting Advanced Composites Castings, Forgings, Powder Compaction, Hard Sufaces Advanced Technical Information Delivery Intelligent Process Controls & Mfg Execution Systems Renewable Energy Technologies Wind, Solar, Geo., Bio., Crop residue Advanced Infrastructure Technologies Green Culture and Technologies Renew and Improve existing Manufacturing Processes

    20. QCML - Education and Jobs Advanced Technology requires to map the detail education needs of engineers and practitioner/operators Identify GAPS Course gaps –soft gaps Skill gaps – hard gaps Define subject matter for training Provide hands on opportunity Connect Skills to Jobs – Pathways Reference: www.careerclusters.org Soft Gaps are often viewed as those courses which are possible to deliver in a class room format. These are courses like 6 Sigma/DMAIC, Global Supply Base and Logistics, Global collaborative Engineering and Industrial Engineering Fundamentals. (It is recognized that these are most often currently within the I.E. curricula. Hard Gaps are seen as those which relate to hands on skills for manufacturing. These are skill gaps in Fundamentals of Machining & Allied Processes, Sheet & Plate operations including cutting forming bending processes, Welding and weld automation processes, and Factory Controls which include the control layers from fundamental sensors and devices, local PLC controls cell controllers, synchronous and asynchronous communications, and Manufacturing Execution Systems. Thee are others which would be associated with specific industry sectors.Soft Gaps are often viewed as those courses which are possible to deliver in a class room format.
