Today’s Webinar • We will begin with a brief MPES update. • This PowerPoint and webinar will be archived for later viewing at http://www.rcu.msstate.edu (“MDE”>“Mississippi Principal Evaluation System”). • As we proceed through the webinar today, please submit your questions by typing in your GOTO participant window chatbox. • We will try to address questions as we go and save additional time at the end.

MPES Update Key Dates Jan. 31 – Formative Conference completed, Form 3 due in Canvas Apr. 30 – Circle Survey Conference completed, Circle Survey report due in Canvas July 31– Summative Assessment Conference completed; Professional Growth Goals Conference completed; and Forms 1, 4, and Professional Growth Goals Form due in Canvas

  5. MPES Update, Cont. • 1,283 head/asst./alternative-school principals and CTE directors are participating in MPES in 2013-2014. • 2013-2014 is primarily a data gathering and field-testing year. • MDE does not anticipate the use of MPES scores for high-stakes decisions until approx. 2016-2017.

  6. Goals for Today • Purpose of the Formative Conference • How to log into Canvas to review Forms 2A-C (goal forms) • How to document the Formative Conference • How to submit the Formative Conference documentation (Form 3) in Canvas • How supervisors may view submissions in Canvas

  7. I. Purpose of the Formative Conference • Face-to-face conference conducted in December 2013/January 2014 • Purpose is to examine indicators of MPES goals attainment thus far • MPES goals may not be changed unless expressly permitted by the Office of Federal Programs (e.g., an example of an instance where a goal should be changed is a QDI-based goal) • Role of supervisor during the Formative Conference is to assist and support the principal, asst. principal, or CTE director as needed to ensure the best possible chance of achieving MPES goals

How to Log into Canvas and Review Forms 2A-C Principals, asst. principals, and CTE directors should print and review their Forms 2A-C prior to the Formative Conference: Helpful Hints for Logging Into Canvas: • Correct URL is https://mde.instructure.com/login • NOT “canvas.instructure.com” • NOT “www” • Firefox, Chrome, or Safari preferable (Internet Explorer 9 or 10 should also work) • If you cannot remember your username or password, click “Don’t know your password?” You will receive an email with your username at the top and a link to reset your password.

Helpful Hints for Logging In, Cont.: • Your username is typically your licensure number, not your email address. • The software and browser you are using may cause the login screen to look slightly different, but remember to enter your licensure number instead of your email address. Differences are caused by cross-platform performance capabilities.

  12. II. How to Log into Canvas and Review Forms 2A-C, Cont. Once logged into Canvas, follow these 5 easy steps: • Click on “Courses” at the top of the page. • Click on the MPES course in which you are a student. • Click on “Modules” on the left side of the screen. • In Module 1, click on “Step 2: Submit Forms 2A-C.” • Download your Forms 2A-C from the “Submission” box on the right side of the screen. *If you experience difficulties, please contact the MPES Canvas Help Desk at mpes@rcu.msstate.edu.

  13. II. How to Log into Canvas and Review Forms 2A-C, Cont. 1. Select “Courses.” 2. If enrolled in multiple MPES courses, select the one in which you are a student.

  14. II. How to Log into Canvas and Review Forms 2A-C, Cont. 3. Select “Modules.” 4. Select “Step 2: Submit Forms 2A-C.”

How to Document the Formative Conference During or immediately after the face-to-face Formative Conference meeting, principals should: • Download Form 3 from Canvas. • Complete Form 3. • Upload Form 3 in Canvas for supervisors’ review. • Note that actual signatures are NOT required on the bottom of Form 3. Principals may type in the names required on the form. Supervisors may review forms in Canvas to ensure information was reported correctly.

  17. III. How to Document the Formative Conference, Cont. Be sure to download Form 3 (e.g., the fillable Word document) from Canvas. We recommend that you use only the fillable version of the MPES forms, which are provided in Canvas. These are much easier to manipulate than non-fillable forms, such as the ones in your MPES Process Manual. To download Form 3 in Canvas: • Go to “Modules” on the left side of your screen. • Click on “Module 2: Step 1.”

  18. III. How to Document the Formative Conference, Cont. Downloading Form 3 in Canvas: 1. Go to “Modules.” 2. Select Step 1 of Module 2.

  19. III. How to Document the Formative Conference, Cont. After you have downloaded and completed Form 3, save it on your computer and then submit the document to Canvas.

How to Submit Form 3 in Canvas • Click on Step 2 of Module 2 (either by clicking on the forward arrow at the bottom of “Module 2: Step 1” or by clicking on “Modules” on the left side of your screen). • Click on “Submit Assignment” in the top right corner of your screen. • Browse for your file and then click “Submit assignment.” You should receive a green checkmark within about 5 seconds confirming your submission was successful. If not, close your browser and try again using a different browser.

  21. IV. How to Submit Form 3 in Canvas, Cont. 1. Click on Step 2 of Module 2. 2. Click “Submit Assignment.”

  22. IV. How to Submit Form 3 in Canvas, Cont. 3. Browse for and attach your Word file. The green checkmark should appear in about 5 seconds.

  23. IV. How to Submit Form 3 in Canvas, Cont. If you need to resubmit a form for any reason: • Simply return to the page where you submitted the assignment. • Under the submission confirmation box, click “Re-submit Assignment.” • Browse for your revised document and then click “Submit Assignment.” You should receive the green checkmark within about 5 seconds.

How Supervisors View Submissions To view submissions by MPES participants: • Click on “Courses” at the top of your screen. • Click on any course in which you are a teacher. • Click on “Grades” (either of the two links). • If the participant’s name shows an icon under the “Submit Form 3” column, then the participant has submitted the form. • Click on the participant’s name to review the submission. You may download, save, print, etc.

  26. V. How Supervisors View Submissions, Cont. 2. Choose any course in which you are a teacher. 1. Click “Courses.”

  27. V. How Supervisors View Submissions, Cont. 3. Select “Grades.” 4-5. If a principal’s name has an icon under “Submit Form 3,” then the principal has submitted the document. Click the principal’s name to view the submission.

  28. V. How Supervisors View Submissions, Cont. Important Note Reminder – MPES participants should submit their own MPES forms in Canvas. Supervisors should NOT submit MPES forms on behalf of the MPES participants being evaluated. Supervisors should instead review finalized forms once submitted in Canvas.
