  7. Interviews • We interviewed: • 6 personswithdisabilities • Between 16 and 55 yearsold • 8 jobcoaches, 1 coach and • 1 manager of the jobcoaches

Barriers most commonly experienced • The self confidence and abilities of youngsters aren't balanced • Switch fromsecondary school to vocationaleducation is verydifficult. notenough support at school • Public transport isn'taccessibleforeveryone • Notenoughpossibilities to try different sorts of work, traineeships

  10. Barriers most commonly experienced 2 • Employers have littleknowledgeaboutdisabilities • Personswithdisabilitiescan’tmeasure up • with the requirements of the labourmarket • Jobcoachpossiblefor at most 3 years • Jobcoachingdoesn’t start at school

  13. Barriers Jobcoaches • Not being sufficiently prepared for a paid job: • expectations • social skills, employee skills • support information • labour market information • Not being able to measure up to the requirements of the labour market • Wages are almost equal to social benefits

  14. Whathelped • People (family, friends): • who believed in me • saw my qualities • helped me • Teachers who recognised and acknowledged my qualities, who supported me and stimulated me to continue studying • The possibility to ‘pile up’ schooling

  15. Important in the work I do • That I get the chance to do what I like and to use my qualities. • They take me serious • They treat me as a colleague and as the person I am • That I have a coach • That they respect: • I’m ill quite often • I need coaching

  17. Switch WSW  regular job. • Give people opportunities • Give possibilities to try other work • Give opportunities for traineeships • Provide more schooling i.e. reading, writing, Dutch etc. • Do more against teasing
