  2. THE NORSEMEN OFFENSE Weapons were very common in the late Viking period. There even was a law that said that all free men should own a weapon! Some of the main and most commonly used weapons were the spear, sword and battle-axe. 2

  3. ENGLISHMEN OFFENSE The Englishmen knights had many useful battle weapons. There were daggers, maces, lances, and swords.Daggers were short, sharp, knife used for close-up battles. Maces were weapons that were jointed together, with a ball full of spikes at the end. It gave maximum amount of power even when it was used from a far distance. Lances were basically a spear-like weapon, that you could either stab of throw. However, they were mainly used while riding the horse. Finally, there were divergent variety of swords, such as the long sword, cutting sword, etc 3

  4. Comparing Offense • Weapons were generally just used for war, and did not have any other purposes. • Weapons were signs of wealth and well-being of the men. • They both used spears and sword. • In battles, Vikings threw or launched weapons • In battles, Englishmen stabbed or swung their weapons • Weapons were very important in both cultures. • Vikings did not have many kinds of weapons • Englishmen had variety of weapons. The helmet was very hard to make, therefore, only the authorities wore it. it had a bill, and four main sections made with iron and had spikes on the top. 5

  6. THE NORSEMEN RELIGION The Norseman worshipped a lot of different gods. Their belief was that the gods lived in the Viking heaven, Asgard. Inside the viking heaven, Asgard was a Elaborate, elaborately created hall called Valhalla. valiant fighter that were killed during a fight was believed to come to Valhalla, greeted with attractive princesses. 6

  7. STILL NORSEMEN RELIGION Two most famous gods are Odin and Thor. Even when Odin is the king of the gods, Thor has the most poularity with his physical strength and the iconic hammer. The Picture depicted on your right is Thor. This Picture is Odin riding a eight legged horse. 7

  8. ENGLISHMEN RELIGION The Englishmen of the Middle Ages were all Christian after Charlemagne made it illegal to be any other religion and forced people to become Christian if they weren't already. They only believed in one god, but God had three different parts in one; God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. 8

  9. Comparing Religion • Vikings believed in their own gods such as Thor and Odin • Englishmen believed in Christianity • Englishmen believed in Jesus and The Lord • They both had stories about their religion. • Vikings had different kind of heaven as Christians did. • Englishmen were forced to believe in god • Vikings were not forced to believe in the Viking religion • They both have religion Vikings Englishmen 9

  10. NORSEMEN TRANSPORTATION The draft of the longship was shallow compared to other ships, so they could reach more inland , making it easier to get to the destination. The speed of the ship is about 10~11 knots, which is about 12 miles per hour.  It is made of overlapping wooden planks, with each of them sizing up to 36 meters. The longships had sails and oar, which made the ship very fast and helped them with sudden attacks at night. 10

  11. ENGLISHMEN TRANSPORTATION War horses were highly trained and feared horses. Knights rode on them, while using their lances. The Englishmen had the sluggish but rugged mast ship 11

  12. Comparing Transportation • Vikings had long ships • Englishmen had mast ships • Long ships were swift and fast • They both had two of the greatest ships at that time. • Mast ships were slow and sluggish • They both had horses, but Vikings rarely used them Vikings Englishmen 12

  13. Conclusion From our research, we found that Vikings had better defense, better offense, and could typically defeat the knights. Although they used simple tactics and were somewhat disorganized the sheer brute force could defeat most of their opponents.
