  2. Humanism Vs. Individualism Renaissance - Rebirth Humanism - A Renaissance movement that turned away from Feudalism and brought interest in ancient Greek and Roman thought. Individualism - The principle of being independent and self-reliant. People expressed their own feelings and though out of the box Today Things are the same...People are their own person with there own personalities and style. No one is the same. There is always room for change and improvement

Important People of the Renaissance -Leonardo Da Vinci - Painter, mathematician, Sculptor, Artist, Philosopher -Dante - Wrote the Divine Comedy in the vernacular(3 Main Points...Hell, Purgatory, Heaven) -Michelangelo-Painted the sistine chapel (Greek/Roman ideas); Sculptor (David) -Martin Luther - German Monk; Protestant Reformation Ideas-Justification of faith(being made right before god) 95 Theses-attack on abuses in the sale of indulgences -John Calvin - French Theologist during the Protestant Reformation; Predestination

  4. -Movement from country to city-states Milan Florence Venice Rome Ideas -People expressed themselves in architecture, art, literature, and religion -Greek/Roman ideas came back after the dark ages Arches, Realistic people in art, -People questioned different ideas and thought different ways

Major Events 1310 - Dante writes the Divine Comedy 1350 - Italian Renaissance officially begin 1434 - The de'Medici family takes control of Florence 1450 - Humanism spreads around Europe 1508 - Michelangelo begins painting the Sistine Chapel 1517 - Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation and presents the ninety-five Theses 1521 - Church excommunicated Luther 1534 - Henry VIII creates the church of England
