  3. Outcomes • Choose relevant databases • Evaluate results for relevant articles by reading abstract • Identify the useful/important steps for carrying out and refining searches using the EBSCO database.

  4. Databases • Why is it important to know how a database is set out (structure)? • Why is it important to identify the purpose of the database?

  5. Forensic Detective Task • Open the following databases and investigate the way they are structured. (Use the table “Investigating Databases”) • Nursing Resource Centre • Eric • Medline# • A+ Education • BMJ Journals online • Ebsco

Analyse the Essay Topic “Boat people” is a term that usually refers to refugees or asylum seekers who escape in boats that are sometimes old and crudely made, and who seek to illegally enter the country of refuge. From a political, social and humanitarian perspective this issue has caused great controversy in Australia (and other countries of refuge), with many people arguing that these boat people should not be given asylum. Do you agree? Give reasons and supporting evidence for your answers.

Week 9 & 10 Task • Continue week 9 task – you should be up to step 4 “Search” • Create your “How to Use EBSCO Guide” include tips on how to refine your searches • Must have saved at least 2 RELEVANT articles from your search • Ask me: • For help • More effective strategies • Questions about what you have already done • Evaluate your sources/results throughout the search process • ASK ME QUESTIONS!!!!

Assessment #3 • Powerpoint presentation “Fantastic Four” • Read criteria guidelines thoroughly and make sure you understand what you need to do/include • Read MARKING RUBRIC –the criteria on the marking rubric is what I will use to assess your PPT presentation • The criteria on the marking rubric is LINKED to the criteria guidelines • Highlight the links between the RUBRIC and GUIDELINES so all areas are addressed

Directed Study / Homework Complete a PLAN for Assessment #3 – “Fantastic Four” • Choose 4 features or concepts • Identify the areas of those features/concepts you want to talk about • Identify the REASONS why those ‘areas of the features/concepts’ will make you an ‘ace researcher’ • SHOW your PLAN to me in our week 11 lecture
