  2. To identify the structures in the leaf that are involved in photosynthesis Purpose

  3. During this lab you will observe and draw the anatomy of the leaf. Leaves are the organs of the plant that make glucose (i. e. food) during the process of photosynthesis. Most leaves are thin and flat which helps them capture sunlight for photosynthesis. Background

  4. The broad, flat portion of the leaf is called the blade.

  5. Some leaves have tubes running through them called veins. Water and food are carried in the veins. Geraniums are dicots Parallel Netted

  6. The petiole is the little mini-stem that attaches the leaf to the real stem. Geraniums are dicots
