HANDBOOK INTRODUCTION • This handbook reflects the cumulative experience of The Graduate Committee vis-à-vis graduate student education and research.  The purpose of this handbook is to define current regulations as well as “best practices” to achieve the following goals:  • Outline graduate requirements and provide milestones and typical timelines to assist graduate students in timely completion of their MS and PhD degrees. • Promote clear understanding of the mutual responsibilities and expectations of faculty advisors and graduate students. • Enhance the quality of faculty mentoring of graduate students.

Research Credits • Five credits (or more) must be taken in research based classes (ORBIOL 3505-Directed Research, ORBIOL 3818-Independent Study, or ORBIOL 3511-Thesis Research) to fulfill the research course requirement. • PhD Degree • 1.5.3. Research Credits • Twenty-two credits (or more) must be taken in research based classes (ORBIOL 3505-Directed Research, ORBIOL 3818-Independent Study, or ORBIOL3510-Dissertation Research) to fulfill the research course requirement.
