  2. Schizophrenia • Schizophrenia is a chronic psychotic disorder characterized by disturbed behavior, thinking, emotions and perceptions • Acute episode of schizophrenia are characterized by delusions, hallucinations, illogical thinking, incoherent speech and bizarre behavior

  3. Schizophrenia Major diagnostic features of schizophrenia; A. Two or more of the following must be present for a significant portion of time over the course of a 1-month period: - delusions - hallucinations - speech that is either incoherent or characterized by marked loosing associations - disorganized or catatonic behavior - negative features (e.g. flattened affect)

  4. Schizophrenia • B. Dysfunctions in work, interpersonal relations or self-care • Sign of disturbance for at least 6 months, with at least 1 month of symptoms listed.

  5. Subtypes of Schizophrenia • Disorganized type • Catatonic type • Undifferentiated type • Residual type
