  1. Chem 509 • Signal Transduction • Winter 2012 Lecture 1

  2. 6 general classes of receptors

  3. Ligand, agonist, antagonist

  4. Autocrine, paracrine, endocrine: three mechanisms of signaling cells

  5. Fight or Flight Response http://monmouthfamilywellness.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/fight-or-flight.107165735_std.jpg

  7. Protein Kinase A AKAP: A kinase anchoring protein

  8. Termination of beta adrenergic signaling pathway: • Epinepherine concentration is lowered. • GAP activity of Gs alpha (GTP converted to GDP) • cAMP phosphodiesterase • Phosphorylation of beta-adrenergic receptor -kinase is beta-adrenergic receptor kinase(BARK) -also known as G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 • Association of phosphorylated beta-adrenergic receptor with arrestin. This is followed by receptor endocytosis.
