  1. Observation or Inference?

  2. Observation Using your senses to notice (OBSERVE) a problem in the natural world…. Why is this important??? It’s the “spark” that begins the process we know as the SCIENTIFIC METHOD! What’s the difference between observation and inference?

  3. Inference • Inferences are conclusions ABOUT the observations • Attempted explanations • An inference comes AFTER an observation is made….

  4. Which is it???Observation or Inference??? There is an aquarium in the Marine Bio classroom. The tank is 70cm long, 25cm wide and 45cm deep. The teacher will use the aquarium for lessons on fishes.

  5. Inference or Observation? • The Earth in this picture is a sphere • The Earth in this picture is mostly colored blue • The Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun

  6. Inference or Observation • The sunglasses are yellow • The sunglasses are used in the summer time • The sunglasses have 2 lenses

  7. History.... Lice have been around for thousands of years There is mention in the bible about a plague of lice Do you know what a plague is?

  8. Are Sewer Lice Useful? There are different species of lice: Hair lice Body lice Sewer lice Genetic Engineers have discovered that lice eat bio-waste! They have altered the genome of lice to use them in water purification/treatment plants The lice “eat” human waste...

  9. And There's a Bonus!!! While studying the sewer lice that were eating the waste... A genetic engineer accidentally ingested one!!!! And, he said it tasted “yummy”! Now, they are being used in third world countries to “treat” dirty water... and then they are sold on the market as a food source!
