Control Operators • Operator responsible for making sure all FCC rules are followed regarding the operation of and signals produce by that station • Control Point – station or remote location from which control op can control station • Privileges & Guest Operating • Go with Control Operator • Unlicensed Operators Okay only if control operator physically present

  4. QRM and QRN Harmful Interference Degrades, obstructions or repeatedly interrupts communications of a regulated service Willful Interference Intentional Harmful Interference Interference

Communications on behalf of someone else Bypasses normal telecommunications and postal channels 3rd Party need not be present 3rd party coms do not need to be written Organizations can also be 3rd parties When 3rd party communications cross international borders, there must be third-party agreements between the two countries involved Messages from one ham to another ham is NOT third-party whether direct or relayed List of current 3rd Party Agreements on pg 8-9 Third-Party Communications

Broadcasting – one-way transmission intended for reception by general public Not legal for hams, including relay from other transmission services No music –including incidental background Retransmitting music along with other authorized space station and space shuttle transmissions only exception Hams specifically prohibited from assisting news gathering organizations over the air Code practice & bulletins for amateurs ok but not news bulletins Retransmissions of ham transmissions for space stations and repeaters okay Ham transmissions intended for hams Retransmission of wx and prop info from government stations to hams ok but not on regular basis Broadcasting & Retransmission

  13. Aircraft & Vessels Permission of captain or master Must not use “installed” Must be in US or territories or on US aircraft or vessel in International waters Normally not legal for hams to talk to non- ham stations FCC may allow RACES operators to talk to government stations Also, annual authorization for hams to communicate with military stations on Armed Forces Day Special Circumstances
