  3. What’s required… * • All media used in face-to-face, blended, and online courses will be transcribed and captioned. This includes videos with audio or sign language only content. • Media produced, streamed, or otherwise provided as part of a student(s) presentation, for campus and online courses, will be transcribed and captioned if a graded assignment or test, based on the student(s) presentation , is a part of the course requirements. • * From the “Guidelines for Captioning Audio-visual Media” (revised 2.23.15) RIT Academic Affairs

  4. Where do we start… • Does the video file have audio? All of our captioning vendors require an audio track to develop a transcription file. • Is it in English? Our vendors can work with spoken English, French and Spanish to provide caption files (and transcripts) in any of these • (3) languages. • We provide interpreting with English voice over for video files using sign language and offer ”shadowing” services for special requests.

Next up… let’s add some words • Ensemble/AST captioning • Standard procedure for most projects • Can only be initiated by an Ensemble Administrator • NCI captioning • Used for high profile/priority projects • Multi language capable • Real-Time captioning • Used for “extremely” short turn-around times.

  6. Who’s paying… • Academic vs. Non Academic • Captioning for registered courses is paid by the Provost’s Office (requires Course number) • All other approved access requests* are paid by Engineering Services “Central” captioning account • * Currently this includes language translation, interpreting, and voice over services.

  7. How long will it take… • Standard Delivery… is there such a thing? • (5) Business days is our goal for each service • Are there exceptions? • You bet… and lots of them! • The size/scale of your project • Other prioritized projects • Current work-load for us (other Clients) • Current work-load for our vendors • Availability of our vendors • Time of year

What does it take for us to “deliver”… • Help us Help you • Communication, Communication, Communication • The sooner you get us involved the better • Coordinate with us for “scheduled” deliveries • Work with us for “optimized” deliveries • If/when things change for you… understand it have an impact on us as well
