  1. The Miracle of Christmas part 3 'A Return to Awe and Wonder'

  2. Luke 2:8-208 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

  3. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,    and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

  4. A) You can trust Christmas

  5. Luke 2:1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.

  6. Jesus was counted in a Roman census.

  7. Micah 5:2“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,    though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me    one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old,    from ancient times.”

  8. Tacitus 55 ADChristus, the founder of the [Christian] name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius. But the pernicious superstition, repressed for a time, broke out again, not only through Judea, where the mischief originated, by through the city of Rome also."

  9. B) This will be a sign to you....

  10. “This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, came to earth on a mission to die

  11. 1) He came in humility

  12. Isaiah 53:2-32 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,    and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,    nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,    a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.Like one from whom people hide their faces    he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

  13. 2.) He came in fulfillment of destiny

  14. Romans 5:6-8 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  15. Romans 5:1717 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

  16. C)The shepherds awe and wonder

  17. “When we lose our sense of awe we have lost sight of God. When we handle the things of God carelessly because we have ceased to stand in wonder, we trek on dangerous ground. The “Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” And without it ,we are lost. Awe, wonder, and the fear of God are the foundation stones for constructing our world view and how we will interact with each other and the world.” -Pastor Rob

  18. 1.) Jeremiah and his call to awe

  19. Jeremiah 2:8The priests did not ask,    ‘Where is the Lord?’Those who deal with the law did not know me;    the leaders rebelled against me.The prophets prophesied by Baal,    following worthless idols.

  20. Jeremiah 2:11Has a nation ever changed its gods?    (Yet they are not gods at all.)But my people have exchanged their glorious God    for worthless idols.

  21. Jeremiah 2:19Your wickedness will punish you;    your backsliding will rebuke you.Consider then and realize    how evil and bitter it is for youwhen you forsake the Lord your God    and have no awe of me,”declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

  22. Awe -Hebrew- Pah dahmeans awe, dread, terror, amazement

  23. Psalm 36:1 I have a message from God in my heart    concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:There is no fear of God before their eyes.

  24. Hebrews 12:2929 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

  25. D) This Christmas return to the shepherd's field.......return to awe and wonder
