Conversely, poor teeth and mouth health can cause a host of problems throughout the body. Our Miami dentists have come up with a list of signs that indicate poor dental and oral health. Signs of Poor Dental and Oral Health: 1) Jaw or Mouth Pain: Mouth or jaw pain is a sign of stress (either emotional or physical). Visiting a dentist can help you pinpoint the source of your facial discomfort which, in turn, can help identify the treatment methods that will offer immediate and lasting relief. Sometimes, discomfort or pain in the jaws can indicate something much more serious, such as a heart attack. Knowing some of the other common symptoms of a heart attack can help you figure out what is going on and make timely interventions. 2) Sensitivity:

  2. If you feel a sharp, stinging pain in your teeth whenever you consume anything cold or hot, you probably have sensitive teeth (also known as ‘dentin sensitivity’). Since this pain is fleeting, we tend to ignore it. However, it could be a sign of more serious underlying dental issues, including infections or cavities. It could also spell the start of gingivitis, which, if left untreated, can evolve into advanced gum disease (periodontitis). 3) Lost or Loose Teeth: Speaking of advanced periodontitis, abruptly moving or falling teeth are major symptoms of this disease. In addition, tooth loss could also signal osteoporosis, which often leads to weak bones and reduced bone density. Osteoporosis affects over 10 million people in the US, and is more common in older adults. It can lead to the loss of teeth once it starts attacking the jaw. Females with osteoporosis are significantly more likely to deal with the loss of teeth, compared to females without this disease. 4) Stained Teeth: Sometimes, consuming too much of certain foods can lead to teeth discoloration. Even though this affects the appearance of the teeth, it does not indicate anything serious. However, if you notice a tooth turning darker without any apparent reason, you should rush to an emergency dentist, as this could be an indication of severe decay or dead nerves. 5) Bad Breath: Again, consuming certain foods or drinks, or having a dry mouth, can lead to bad breath (also called ‘halitosis’). However, halitosis can also be indicative of gingivitis or gum disease. In addition, bad breath could be caused by a number of serious health problems, such as: 1-Chronic infection in the lungs. 2-Sinus infections. 3-Kidney or liver disease. 4-Gastrointestinal issues. 5-Diabetes. Final Word: To sum up, this blog covered some of the most common (and often, serious) indications of poor dental and oral health. If you feel like you are dealing with any of the above indications, it is time for you to schedule an appointment with a Miami dentist. Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published.
