  3. Starting my 9th year teaching Biology (6th year of AP!) Married to Mr. Florence 2 year old daughter LOTS of pets, both at home and at work! About Mrs. Florence

  4. Teacher Responsibilities • Provide instruction so students can be successful. • Provide a safe environment for learning. • Keep students focused on learning. • Uphold the expectations of principals and higher administration.

  5. Student Expectations • Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings. • Bring required learning materials each time we meet (notebook, pen/pencil, etc.) • Stay organized and keep up with given class materials and assignments. • Demonstrate respect and tolerance of others. • Maintain an academic focus throughout the ENTIRE class until the teacher dismisses you.

  6. Starting Class Each Day • Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings. • Have out on your desk your: • Biology Notebook • pen or pencil (sharpen as soon as you get to class!) • Other personal items go under desk (please keep walkways and clear!) • (1) Write down homework assignments and important info in your Calendars. • (2) Begin working on the Warm Up assignment.

  7. Preparing for Class Each Day • Students are expected to have the following with them EVERY class period: • Biology Notebook • Pen or pencil • Biology Notebooks are mandatory and must be organized in a particular way (discussed later) • Kept in classroom bins, but you can take it home to study with if you need to!!!

  8. Biology Notebooks • Must be a three-ring binder with pockets on the side. • I suggest a BIG binder (1’’ diameter minimum). • Pencil pouch is optional, but a good idea!! • You will need 5 tabbed subject dividers. • Dividers should be labeled and ordered as follows: • Student Progress • Notes • Daily Work • Quizzes/Tests 5. Labs • Put blank notebook paper in front of tabs.

  9. Demonstrate Respect!!! • Respect the teacher! • Respect your peers! Become comrades rather than classmates! • Respect the school property and personal property! • Respect classroom animals! • Clean up after yourselves!

  10. Academic Focus In Class • Be prepared to work HARD everyday! • Don’t ever put your head down! • Leave your personal drama at the door! • Get involved in the class discussion! • Take additional notes in class! • Eliminate distractions! (hair and make-up, books, snacks, phones, etc.) • Don’t work on other class assignments or late homework!

  11. Tutorials I’m available everyday after school until at least 4:00 (usually here later!) Try to check ahead of time to make sure I’ll be available the day you plan to drop by! In the mornings, I’m here and available for tutoring by 7:40 (except Tuesdays when I’m doing hall duty!) Come to tutorials if: • You don’t understand a concept and a test is coming up soon. • You need help doing the homework or project. • You need to get make-up work or take a make-up exam. • You’d like to re-take an exam.

  12. Grade Penalties • Late daily work: 3 days to get it turned before you start to lose points!!! • Re-take exams: Retake exams will be different from first exam. This will justify receiving full credit on the second attempt. • Retesting must be done during tutorials!!! • Cheating/Copying work: ZERO for all students involved AND disciplinary actions taken for all students involved.
