Be sure to check INOW often as some of you are only one zero away from a detention. • Reason, Time, Scope • Read article • Find the reason, time, and scope of your two trend/fad topics. Look up a third for extra credit. • Independent Reading • You should be finished with the first 3rd of your book…or nearly so • Reading Log #1 will be due Friday…regardless of whether we are in school tomorrow and/or Thursday. • Yes, it is to be typed.

Reason • Trends • Generally have identifiable and explainable rises • They are driven by consumers’ functional needs • They are consistent with other consumer lifestyle trends • Fads • Driven by an emotional need to purchase • Based on hype and idealistic product perceptions • Benefits don’t deliver what was promised to consumers

  6. Life Span • Trends • Rise slowly • Steady growth over the years • Fads • Spike and die out quickly • Usually start and end within a few years

  7. Scope • Trends • Usually encompasses several brands or products that are applicable to many different consumer segments • Fads • Typically includes only a single brand or product and has limited appeal outside of one narrow consumer segment.

  8. Your Homework • Tonight: find the reason, time span, and scope for each of your two topic ideas. • Be sure to find specific dates for your trends/fads • You can do the third trend/fad for extra credit.
