  2. Relationship with God/Torah • The Jewish people obey their one and only God through the Torah which serves them as their teachings of their religion. • The torah are said to have been given to the patriarchs, Moses and the prophets of Judaism.

  3. History of Key Sacred Texts • c.430 Torah read for the public by Ezra the Scribe • Mystical writings other than the torah are the Apocrypha and the Pseudepigrapha

  4. Ten Commandments • I am the Lord your God • You shall have no other gods before me and You shall not make for yourself an idol • You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God • Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy • Honor your father and mother

  5. Ten Commandments Continued • You shall not murder • You shall not commit adultery • You shall not steal • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor • You shall not covet your neighbor's wife or anything that belongs to your neighbor

  6. Jerusalem • For many Jerusalem stands as the homeland of the Judaism religion. • The first temple of Jerusalem was built in Jerusalem under the reign of king Solomon in the years 1006. • Jerusalem would later fall to the Romans in 586BCE

  7. The Nation of Israel • After the death of king Solomon many internal revolts took place which eventually lead to the ten northern tribes establishing a new kingdom known as Israel

  9. The (Shoah) Holocaust • The holocaust took place during World War II, during witch over six million European Jews were murdered by the Nazi Leadership of Germany. • Nearly a third of the Jewish population was lost during this time.

  10. Sacred Practices and Holidays • Some Jewish holidays include the high holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. • One sacred practice held by the Jewish people include the Havdalah ceremony.

  11. Judaism today • since the end of the holocaust more and more Jews have began to once again become openly religious. • Over time more people are being attracted to the newly revitalized expressions of the Jewish spirituality.
