  1. Mrs. Sessions’ Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter October 21 - 25, 2013 • Boot Scootin’ News • A great big thank you goes out to parents and grandparents who came out to help us make bats! The kids really enjoyed this activity, learning about bats, and they look great hanging upside down in our classroom. A great big thanks goes out to Mr. Kerry Clasen, our class fire-dad who came to teach us about fire safety! • Fall Fest - Thurs., Oct. 31 – 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. – volunteers needed! • Culinary Kids fieldtrip – Tues., Nov. 5 • 6 chaperones needed • Thanksgiving Holidays – Nov. 25 - 29 • Please put your child’s name on all jackets. What We’re Learning • ELA – Unit 3 Transportation – Key Skills • Letters Ii – letter and sound recognition • Reading Story – On the Go • Begin to track print and related speech to printed words • Listen and respond to fiction, informational text, a poem • and a fable • Make predictions • Compare and contrast genres, stories and characters • Match the letter /i/ to the sound /i/, blend words with /i/ • Read simple one syllable words • Write Ii • Write sentences; write lists • Math – Unit 2 – Key Skills • Count to 30 • Count objects in a set • Count a given number of objects • Connect a given number of objects with a corresponding • numeral • Count to answer questions about as many as 10 objects • in any arrangement • Represent a number of objects with a numeral 0 – 10 • Fill in missing numbers • Determine how many more to get to 10 • Compare 1 set as greater than, less than or equal to another • set • SocialStudies/Science – • Fall/Transportation/Pumpkins Student of the Week Madilyn Homework • Review sight words each night! • Read a book each night! • Reading: Read “Can We Go?” book to your parent. • Writing: Trace and complete the sentence “We can go by ___________.” Draw a picture to match the sentence. • Handwriting: Ii page • Math: Six page. Ten! Page, Halloween Count • Language: Phonics: Ii– Pages 67 and 72. Phonemic awareness: /i/ - page 71.
