  4. Digital Library • A library in which collections are stored in digital formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media) and accessible by computers (http://www.webpages.uidaho.edu/~mbolin/trivedi-diglib.htm)

  5. Electronic Library • The first term used to refer to this kind of libraries (digital, virtual, hybrid ... etc). • Nowadays, it is replaced by Digital library.

  6. Virtual Library • Like Digital library (digital resources only), but it doesn't exist on the real world. Mostly on the Internet only.

  8. Advantages of a Digital Library • No physical boundary, can be accessed from anywhere. • Nearly unlimited storage space at a much lower cost • Advanced search and retrieval.. • Round the clock availability.

  11. Key Issues in digital library • Huge amount of printed materials: retrospective conversion VS new only. • Availability of computer and communication infrastructures. • Copy right issues. • Plagiarism (copy/paste).

  12. Focus is on resources not users. • Lack of standards. • Interoperability.

  13. Organizing Digital Library • Classification. Is it still valid? • Ontology. • Cataloging. Is it still Valid? • Metadata. • Using search engines.
