  6. What does the IT Inventory & Mapping Toolbox deliver? APPLICATION EXAMPLES This toolbox provide key information for network support, network design, network planning and operations efficiency • Providing you with information to help you learn about the Network Infrastructure • Obtaining accurate/up to date topology drawings to enable you to establish what infrastructure devices are available and how they are connected – this is essential for network support, network design, network planning and operations efficiency. • Obtaining a network inventory, that includes:- • Installed software lists – you can check for illegal software installations and work out if you have sufficient software licenses. • Serial numbers for components of modular devices (chassis, backplanes, containers, power supplies, fans, sensors, modules, ports, stacks, cpus etc) and non modular devices. • Information on whether or not a component in a modular device can be replaced. • Ensuring that you are aware of changes such as devices joining or leaving the network - applies to changes between discovery runs.   20. What does the VoIP Readiness toolbox deliver? APPLICATION EXAMPLES The VoIP specific Applications for the Mapping and Visualization in Visio tool (described earlier in the presentation) PLUS The VoIP Pre Deployment Assement tool enables you to stress test the network to see if it can handle the planned phone deployment and more • Finding the limits for acceptable QoS • Establishing the acceptable phone limit for the sector of the network under test* – for voice traffic the user has to have an acceptable QoS • Checking for any unacceptable deterioration as the Phone loading levels are gradually increased • *Sectors are the locations on the network where you plan to site phones. • Giving you the information you need to ensure you do not exceed the carrying capacity of links and starve data traffic • Applying its checks to Full Duplex operation • Monitoring the QoS upstream and downstream. • Running tests in parallel to save time and money • Testing multiple paths at the same time • Using different test patterns • Testing can be applied to two different Codec at the same time, this allows the effect of different packet sizes associated with different Codec to be examined in a single test • Testing can be applied to two different Diff Serv values at the same time, this allows for VoIP and non VoIP loading to be sent at the same time.

The Blaster Manager uses a license system • based on phone loading levels. Licenses can be for a specified phone loading level or they can be Pay As You Go, where charges are based on usage. For PAYG, the Blaster Manager needs to • be connected to the Internet at least once a month to report the phone loading counts. • Sink Systems are free and not machine locked, the user interface allows local access to system information only – The user can download and install multiple copies of this free software. • Testing:- • Testing can be applied to two different Codecs at the same time, this allows the effect of different packet sizes associated with different Codec to be examined in a single test • Testing can be applied to two different Diff Serv values at the same time, this allows for VoIP and non VoIP loading to be sent at the same time. • Testing is always full duplex – the Blaster Manager/Sink systems send and receive RTP and RTCP APP frames. • Deployment:- • The Blaster Managers and Sink Systems are placed at the points on the network where the phones are to be deployed. • Remote access :- • You can use standard remote control tools to view and control the Blaster Managers, however for a more secure/integrated solution that will automatically store the test reports • from all the test runs undertaken on multiple customer sites into a central library, you can use a Blaster Remote Manager to control the Blaster Operations simultaneous over • multiple sites – see next slide. Deployment and Integration for VoIP Monitoring & Troubleshooting Toolbox, when using the VoIP Simulation tool The VoIP Simulation tool enables you to measure the QoS over network paths (All types of VoIP Network) DEPLOYMENT INFORMATION - VoIP Simulation tool Operates using a minimum of two PC platforms Platforms connect to a free port on a switch. Can be deployed on all types of VoIP Network (RTP/RTCP) INTEGRATED TOOL INFORMATION – CODIMA TOOLBOX ALL IN ONE Can isolate the cause of unacceptable QoS - Troubleshooting Grid shows QoS patterns for phones, VoIP Simulation tool can then be used to provide 24/7 QoS reports for paths on the network, and the SNMP information obtained using the Bottleneck Analysis/Path Analysis tools can be used to isolate the problem further, for example identify over loaded ports and check memory for Process Switched Routers. The Automated Correlation Engine provides a means of automatically correlating the QoS statistics with the information obtained from SNMP monitoring.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES The VoIP Simulation tool enables you to measure the QoS over network paths (All types of VoIP Network) • Identifying what the actual QoS is between different points on the network • Tracking the QoS continually, to allow for time specific variations in the network traffic • Over the course of a day/a week/a month • Measuring the impact on QoS when using different Codecs and priority settings • Providing the information you need to ensure you are using the most suitable Codecs for your network - to achieve an acceptable QoS (Bandwidth v resilience to packet loss and minimum QoS level) • Measuring QoS for both the upstream and downstream paths (Full Duplex)

Deployment and Integration for VoIP Monitoring & Troubleshooting toolbox, when using the VoIP Monitoring and VoIP Troubleshooting tools The VoIP Monitoring and VoIP Troubleshooting tools enable you to undertake real time monitoring and troubleshooting of SIP/Cisco Skinny network DEPLOYMENT INFORMATION - VoIP Monitoring and VoIP Troubleshooting tools Needs to monitor the traffic flow, will required connection to the network using a Tap or a suitably configured Mirror Port • INTEGRATED TOOL INFORMATION – CODIMA TOOLBOX ALL IN ONE • VoIP Monitoring and Troubleshooting tools can show if VoIP Registrations fail, if calls are taking a long time to • set up, if calls can not get though (error codes provided). User can then use other tools such as bottleneck • analysis to check out CPU/Memory on the Registration Server and Pinger tool to check if there are any problems • effecting the route. • Real time Phone status information can be directly displayed in Visio drawings • More devices are identified as Phones in the Visio drawings and asset reports • For example in a SIP environment, the Toolbox will identify phone IP addresses by passively monitoring • SIP/Cisco Skinny Traffic. This information is passed to the discovery database and used when producing • Visio drawings and asset reports • This provides 3 methods of identifying SIP Phones:- • Passive analysis – monitoring frames • Response to SNMP Requests during the discovery processes associated with the Mapping tool • Response to SIP Query during the discovery processes associated with the Mapping tool

Monitoring Server Response times Tracking them Historically Running an Expert Analysis, using ACE to check if response time is being adversely effected by the number of registered phones or by other network activities. Finding problem phones and undertake Error Analysis Establishing:- If only one phone is effected If multiple phones are effected What these phones have in common e.g., same manufacturer, same software level Identifying:- If Error reports are intermittent or persistent If the problem is current - effecting the user now. How serious the reports are by establishing when they occur.   32. Monitoring call set up and clearance– using the real time Call Analyzer to show the dialogs involved in setting up, clearing calls and error reporting. Maintaining an on-line Call log and using it to access Call Analyzer to view the dialogs associated with setting up/clearing calls and error reporting Trouble Shooting Dashboard Call Analyzer Cisco – Skinny Example Call Log plus link to Call Analyzer SIP Example • The SQL Call Logging Add on provides Long term logging of this Call information to an SQL Database, the user can :- • View the Call information – e.g., from/to, duration, success of call, response time etc • Establish what the QoS was • View the dialogs using Call Analyzer • SQL language knowledge is not required to use this facility • The call logs from multiple systems can be sent to the same SQL server to aggregate calls from multiple sites • The SQL server can be local or remote to the Toolbox platform logging the calls

  33. Providing Service Assurance Monitoring – measuring QoS for the phones. Monitoring Jitter, Lost Frames and Delay, and see the automatic calculation of R and MOS values Running an Expert Analysis using ACE, to check if deterioration can be cross referenced with other network activities such as an increase in traffic or too much jitter. Providing in depth analysis of frame files (Trace files) using the Frame Flow Analyzer, the RTP Analyzer and Call Playback facilities The files should contain network traffic covering normal operation and problem situations. The file contents for example could be evidence gathered to assist in resolving QoS or Signalling problems on remote sites SIP, RTP and RTCP should be included in the trace file. Frame file format = Codima - .frm Wireshark - .pcap Frame Flow Analyzer will :- Breakdown all the phone dialogs in the frame file Breakdown each dialog to cover the outgoing and incoming flows. Deployment and Integration Information DEPLOYMENT INFORMATION To undertake protocol analysis and passive analysis, Toolbox needs to monitor the traffic flow - will require connection to the network using a Tap or a suitably configured Mirror Port. For active operations, such as Remote Management or gathering information for the Reports Manager using SNMP, Toolbox requires connection to a free switch port. INTEGRATED TOOL INFORMATION The Bottleneck analysis tool can find the bottleneck e.g., an overloaded interface. You can then configured a mirror port on the Switch and use the Passive Analysis tool to see the traffic on that interface. The Reports Manager tool will also show you who the top talkers are.
