Welcome the Pack 2nd ed • ADASS welcomes the publication of this pack as in 2005! • Contains authoritative information for RG leads and their Directors in local authorities • Also references and sources useful for researchers • Places research governance in specific social care context of research regulation, and distinguished from ADASS’s refreshed review system. • Inclusive definition of research • Supports local authority staff and gives good practice examples including service user involvement

Why ADASS continues to support Research Governance • Research governance to strengthen quality appraisal not just risk avoidance • Similar aims - improving standards in health and social care research for the vulnerable, and distinct from NHS • Local evidence from national and local research needs to be of good quality
