  1. AOB from the expts details… 150 ns filling scheme evolution HI2010 filling scheme LHCb dipole

  2. Little reminder Transverse scans, as well as VDM scans, can and normally should be done in STABLE BEAMS.

  3. 150ns with more and more bunches • getting tough… Thanks!! • 225ns spacing would help a bit • for 150ns (and possibly 50ns) would allow quasi-doubling the nr of collisions in IP2 without any cost for the other experiments • 32bpi becomes mandatory for 350 bunches • for future upgrade of “SPS injection request manager”: • allow more flexible description of requested SPS batch ? • more dynamical • example: allow batches with different gaps in same filling • inject once 8b+300ns+8b+300ns+8b, then 8b+225ns+8b+375ns+8b • also upgrade booster transfers ? • For example, allow starting with 1b from PSB=>PS, and then 6b for the subsequent transfers. => dynamic request of nr of PSB bunches • in SPS at 150ns this would be: 2b train, then 12b trains • would allow minimizing footprint of first LHC injection (<setup beam limit) • AGK: from now will use buckets <31182

  4. Changing the RF bucket 1 position for ions • Currently, abort gaps meet in IP1 (and IP5) • Proposal made (Jowett & Carli): move HI abort gap encounter to IP2 such as to allow max nr of collisions in ALICE • What impact on expts ? => it is not transparent. Affects trigger/timing of detectors. Probably can be handled in the shadow of the first few days of HI beam cmg, but difficult to be sure… Please, wait a week before deciding. NB: ALICE wants to have anyway at least 1 non-colliding bunch • In current scheme, this is “automatic” since some bunches meet the abort gap in IP2. • ATLAS/CMS want some non-colliding bunches: remove a few of those which do not collide anyway in IP2. Very minimal cost in luminosity

  7. LHCb dipole vs ion run • LHCb will not operate during the ion run • Can the dipole spectrometer be turned off ? If not: • 100 kCHF for the whole run (4kCHF/day) • 4MW on the power budget (any critical days in November?)
