What we have today… • Many applications require precise centimeter-level positioning • Use of GPS is not always sufficiently accurate or even available • Factors such as poor satellite geometry or signal blockage affect the solution • A pre-surveyed reference station is needed and a radio-link must be set up for real-time accuracy Arnon (Nonie) Politi

Introducing Locata • Terrestrial-based positioning network • Real time, single point, centimeter-level positioning where GPS may not be available • A number of LocataLites are time-synchronized to form a LocataNet • Each LocataLite consists of two TX antennas and one RX antenna • LocataNets can be small or large Arnon (Nonie) Politi

Numeralla Test Facility • Locata has set up a test facility in Numeralla • Consists of ten LocataLites, transmitting two signals each, over few kilometers • Some multipath from the ground and the surrounding hills • For testing, mount a Locata and two RTK-GPS antennas on a truck • Drive around different roads within the test facility Arnon (Nonie) Politi

Accuracy of Position • Quality of solution affected by multipath conditions and network geometry • Fades in received signal may cause cycle-slips within the tracking loop • Algorithms for detecting and fixing cycle-slips embedded in the receiver • Network geometry determines dilution of precision • Lower DOP values – better position accuracy Arnon (Nonie) Politi

Upcoming UNSW Tests • SNAP group will set up a LocataNet at the UNSW Kensington campus • Seven LocataLites on top of the EE building • Three LocataLites on top of MechEng building • Two scenarios will be tested: • Small network with direct line of sight to all surrounding LocataLites and ground multipath • Urban-canyon between the two buildings with severe multipath but good network geometry.
