  2. Question: Since all of you have a prior knowledge about what a noun is, Can you please define noun in your own words in a concise manner?

  3. Noun- is a name of person, place or thing. The word noun comes from the Latin word nomen, which means “name.”

  4. Question : Can you give a name of a person, a place or a thing?

  5. Two kinds of nouns Proper noun Common noun

  6. Proper noun is a name of a specific person, place, thing or event. A proper noun is always written in capital letters. Examples: Jomar Christmas Manila Barasoain church

  7. Common noun is a name of a common person, place, thing or event. A common noun is always written in small letters. Examples: school adviser church city

  8. Now you know about the two kinds of nouns, will you differentiate the two briefly and give your own examples of a proper noun and a common noun?

  9. Nouns are also divided into four special classes: Concrete noun Collective noun Abstract noun Compound noun

  10. Concrete noun Concrete noun is a word used to name anything which has actual physical existence. Examples: chair, box, car, book, pencil.

  11. Abstract noun Abstract noun is a word used to name a concept or an idea which has no physical existence. It may be a word used to denote quality, property or action. Examples: kindness, loyalty, honor, goodness, democracy

  12. Collective noun Collective noun is a word or words used to identify a collection or group taken as one. Examples: class, flock, committee, audience, bunch

  13. Compound nouns Compound noun is a noun that is made up of more than one word.

  15. What is the special class of noun that is tangible? Can be seen and can be touched? The special class of noun that is intangible? Can’t be seen and can’t be touched? A special class of noun that is used to identify a group taken as one? A special class of noun that is composed of more than one word?

  16. Genders of nouns Masculine refers to males Examples: husband, groom, boy. Feminine refers to females Examples: bride, wife, mother. Common refers to either male or female Examples: pig, deer, parent. Neuter refers to the condition or quality of not having sex. Examples: food, picture, book.
