  4. 1. Description of the PBCSE Awards • Funds made available by the MELS • For Quebec resident students studying abroad • Minimum duration of 2 months (8 weeks) up to a maximum of 8 months, or 2 terms • To support not all but some of the financial expenses related to travel and stay abroad; • To encourage Qc resident students to: • expand learning experience abroad • obtain a degree with an international asset • be better prepared to respond and contribute to the ongoing growth of the Qc labour market. Requirements for the PBCSE Awards • Be a Quebec resident student at McGill; • Be nominated for an exchange program, field study semester, or have Faculty approval to participate in a study abroad/internship program/or research project • Have completed 24 McGill credits prior to the beginning of your study away program • Maintain a CGPA greater than 2.7 prior to the study away program • Be enrolled for a full time course load at the host institution AND follow courses that are part of your degree program requirements at McGill AND lead to transfer credits • Receive full-time transfer credits at McGill within 4 months after the completion of your study away program April 4, 2006

  6. 2.a. Full-Time Equivalent Transfer Credits? A minimum of three(3) credits per each month of full-time study for which you receive the PBCSE award Example: If away for 3 months and receive the PBCSE Awards for 3 months the expected number of credits to be received is: 3 credits x 3 months = 9 transfer credits April 4, 2006

Value of the PBCSE Awards • Value of award contingent upon: • Funds available • Number of approved applications • Destination of your study away program • Your academic standing while studying abroad • Table 1 is an indication of the amount you can expect as well as the number of transfer credits you must receive • Meet with your student adviser prior to leaving to learn about the transfer credit policy of your faculty • Eligible students can receive the PBCSE Awards for a maximum of two (2) terms (8 months) during their career at McGill April 4, 2006

Table 1: Calulation of the PBCSE AwardsThe information below applies to all PBCSE Awards Recipients with the exception of Study-on-Own, Internship Program or Research Project students.Funds available for Study-on-Own, Internship Program or Research Project students are very limited. They are welcome to apply and will be notified accordingly shortly after the application deadline. April 4, 2006

Payment of the PBCSE Awards • One time lump sum payment per term as follows: • Award credit to student fee account • Possibility to request a refund from your McGill student fee account • Two options of refund: Cheque or Direct Deposit - Rules guiding the Request for Refunds - Advantages of Requesting Direct Deposit Refund April 4, 2006

  10. 5. Application Procedures • 5.1. Exchange and Field Study Semester Applicants: 3 steps Step 1: Prior to start of the program away, submit complete award application to SESA by: • May 31, 2006 if on exchange for the 2006 Summer or Fall Term • July 20, 2006 for Barbados Field Study Semester • October 12, 2006 if on exchange or Field Study Semester for the 2006 Winter term April 4, 2006

Exchange and Field Study Semester Awardees: 3 steps Step 2: During the program away, additional registration information must be submitted to SESA to maintain the award received: • Completed Notice of Enrolment Form (NOE) by July 20, 2006 (for Summer 2006 exchanges) October 13, 2006 (for Fall 2006 exchanges) or April 6, 2007 (for Winter 2007 exchanges) • Field Study participants must be registered full-time at McGill and need not submit the NOE form April 4, 2006

Exchange and Field Study Semester Awardees: 3 steps Step 3: Within four (4) months after completion of program away • Exchange students: contact the Student Affairs Office of your faculty at McGill and arrange for receiving full-time equivalent transfer credits • Field Study Participants: ensure that you receive full-time McGill credits April 4, 2006

Study-On-Own/Internship and Research Project Applicants • Two steps: • Step 1: During the program away, submit complete award application with all supporting documents to SESA by: • May 31, 2006 if away for the 2006 Summer • July 3, 2006 if away for the 2006 Fall • October 12, 2007 if away for the 2007 Winter April 4, 2006

Study-on-Own/Internship and Research Project Awardees • Step 2: • Internship and Research Project awardees: submit two evaluations, one from Supervisor at the Host Institution and the second from the Internship/Research project at McGill within 10 days after completion of program away • Study-on-Own/Internship/Research Project awardees: contact your Student Affairs Office and arrange for receiving full-time equivalent transfer credits April 4, 2006

Reminder • Submit complete application early • Submit all required additional information (NOE, evaluations) by stated deadlines • Receive full-time equivalent transfer credits within 4 months after completion of program away • Failure to comply with all requirements => refund of part or total value of award received + Hold on student record preventing registration to courses and other services at McGill April 4, 2006
