  4. Essential Question • How do we add and subtract rational expressions?

  5. Adding/Subtracting Fractions • Find a common denominator (preferably the LCD) • Multiply numerator and denominator of each fraction to convert them to the common denominator • Add/Subtract the numerators • If subtracting, remember to distribute the negative • The resulting denominator does not change; it remains the common denominator • Simplify
