  2. 2009 • Modern Warfare two became the best selling game of all time in the UK and the second best selling game of the year in the US • Batman: Arkham Asylum won a Guinness world record for most critically acclaimed game, following the trend of superheroes becoming more popularly accepted in the media. (The Dark Knight and Iron Man being two hugely popular superhero films)

  3. 2009 cont • 1 vs. 100 – Innovative new game show/video game tie in. It had two play modes, one where they could play for real prizes hosted by a real game show host, all over xbox live.

  4. 2010 • Newest expansion to hugely popular MMORPG series world of Warcraft is released, dubbed Word of Warcraft: Cataclysm becomes the fastest selling PC of all time, overtaking the previous expansion, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the lich King. Selling 3.3 million units in the first 24 hours opposed to 2.8 million units. • Playstation Move and The Kinect are released to rival the huge success of the Wii. Sony and Microsoft back the rise of motion controllers. The kinect sold 8 million units by the end of 2010 after being released early january, surpassing Microsoft’s goal of 5 million.

  5. 2010 continued • Video Games and violence continue to be debated about, for the first time in history the matter is taken to the supreme court • At E3 three dimensional gaming is all the rage. Sony announcing various large videogame franchises to go 3D, e.g. Killzone • Black Ops stirs controversy where the player attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro, instead killing a body double.

  6. 2011 • Nintendo 3DS is to be released. First handheld gaming device to useautostereoscopy technology to show 3D images without the use of special glasses. • There is plenty of public interest despite the hefty price tag: £250
