Common Names • In ancient times it was, the “Sacred Disease” People believed that the seizures were caused by demonic spirits. . Just commonly known as Epilepsy. .
Causes: • There are many causes and can be linked by to many other conditions. • Some causes: • Head Injuries • Hereditary Factors
Symptoms • Convulsions • Muscle Spasms • Loss of Consciousness • Strange Emotions • Strange Behaviors
Area of Nervous System Affected • Epilepsy effects many parts of the brain, but it depends an the cause and the type of attack. • So basically, it mainly affects the brain.
Who is usually affected by Disease • It usually affects really young children or older people. • Usually around the age of 65. • Affects men slightly more than women.
Prognosis • Depending on the patients age and type of epilepsy, it may be possible for that patient to stop taking medication if they have been seizure-free for a certain amount of time. • The prognosis is bad for people who take one or more drugs and have brain injuries.
Treatments • Believe it or not, an effective treatment for the symptoms of epilepsy are vitamins. • Mainly Vitamin D
