LIFE IS EXTREMELY UNPREDICTABLE • Vs. 13 Talking about upcoming business trip • Leave today or tomorrow • Plans for a particular city • Purpose to spend a year there and make a profit. • Many places in the Bible where we are told that we are to work for a living – Ephesians 4:28; 1 Thessalonians 4:11)

  4. LIFE IS EXTREMELY UNPREDICTABLE • Matthew 25:14-30 – Condemned for Not making a profit • Luke 12:20 “whose will those things be?” • Proverbs 27:1 “you do not know what a day may bring forth” • Luke 14:27-30 “sit down & calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete”

  5. LIFE IS EXTREMELY SHORT • V.13 Assumed they would be alive tomorrow! • Psalm 90:10 Assume it is some kind of average life span guaranteed. • U.S. Average currently 78.8 and world wide it is 71.5. Many places much less • Jeanne Calment – 2/21/1875 – 8/4/1997

LIFE IS EXTREMELY SHORT • V.14 Life is a “vapor” • Psalm 144:4 “like a mere breath; days like a passing shadow.” • 2 Samuel 14:14 like water spilled on the ground • Job 7:6 faster than weaver’s shuttle • Job 9:25 faster than a runner • Job 9:26 reed boat slipping by – eagle swooping down on its prey • Psalm 103:15,16 flowers/grass of the field • Isaiah 38:12 shepherd’s tent rolled up

WE ARE TO INCLUDE GOD IN OUR PLANS • V.16 Problem is Arrogance • Not Stealing, Cheating or Lying • Had Left God out of their plans entirely • James 5:15 “we ought to say, ‘if the Lord wills, we will live & also do this or that.” • Our Heart’s Desire is that God’s Will is Done • Matthew 6:10 “Your will be done…” • Matthew 26:42 “Your will be done…” • It is a mind-set; the process of being concerned about the Will of God in our lives

WE ARE TO INCLUDE GOD IN OUR PLANS • V.17 Not all sin is an act we commit • We can sin simply by not doing what is right • Forget to include God in our plans, we tend to forget to do those things that we really need to do • Someone needs encouragement – don’t do it! • Know we are wrong – do not apologize! • Someone needs our forgiveness – don’t do it! • Someone needs to hear the truth – don’t do it! • When we Know right thing to do & don’t do it, it is SIN!

  9. ALL WILL BE MAKING PLANS FOR THE FUTURE • What Standard Will We Use as We Make Those Plans? • Cannot be God’s friend if we continue to be His enemy. James 4:4 • Must study His Word with a desire to Know what He expects of us. 2 Timothy 2:15 • Learn the Right Thing to do, & then to follow through with it – if we do not….it is a sin
