5. Reality Check—bad news first!! • To understand the significance of our solution, we must first look at the enormity of the problem. We live in a toxic, sleep deprived, stressed out , nutrient deficient world. • EPA identifies indoor air quality as #4 out of 13 environmental risk factors for cancer • People are concerned about their water and rightfully so. Bacterial growth, BPA’s, pharmaceuticals in the water, unsafe wells, environmental nightmares from bottles • Processed foods and chemical additives, mineral deficient soils, • Electropollution is a term we will hear about more and more. It describes a newly recognized, yet rapidly emerging toxin that may be silently accelerating the aging process, dangerously increasing stress levels, preventing essential nutrients from entering the body's cells, as well as keeping damaging toxins from exiting them. 9. From National Geographic October 2006, The Pollution Within, Our Toxic Homes • Modern chemistry keeps insects from ravaging crops, lifts stains from carpets, and saves lives. But the ubiquity of chemicals is taking a toll. Many of the compounds absorbed by the body stay there for years—and fears about their health effects are growing • Each year the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reviews an average of 1,700 new compounds that industry is seeking to introduce. Yet the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act requires that they be tested for any ill effects before approval only if evidence of potential harm exists—which is seldom the case for new chemicals. The agency approves about 90 percent of the new compounds without restrictions. Only a quarter of the 82,000 chemicals in use in the U.S. have ever been tested for toxicity.

WHAT IS AUTISM • There are many theories as to the cause of Autism—vaccines, leaky gut syndrome & candida, bowel problems, toxic environmental overload, genetic, mitochondria malfunction |Autism is thought to be a complex neurobiological disorder that is impacted by environmental injury and typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. Autism was first identified in 1943 by Dr. Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital. At the same time, a German scientist, Dr. Hans Asperger, described a milder form of the disorder that is now known as Asperger Syndrome (source—www.autismspeaks.org )

14. Some new statistics • A pair of studies on autism rates show that somewhere around one percent of all U.S. children currently have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The rate is even higher among 6 to 11 year olds and among boys. • Among all children aged two to 17, one in 100 currently have an ASD, which is considerably higher than the previously estimated rate of  one in 150.
