  1. The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness Beginning in 2011-12 … STAAR will assess the same TEKS standards in a deeper more rigorous way.

  2. EOC Key Dates • Late spring 2012 - EOC standard will be set • March 26-28, 2012 – EOC ELA assessments • May 7-18, 2012 – EOC assessment window • June 8, 2012 - EOC results • June 11 – July 3, 2012 – STAAR Academy (for EOC retesters) • July 9-13, 2012 – EOC retake assessment window • August 10, 2012 - EOC retake results

  3. Assessment Differences • Rigor: STAAR will have a greater focus on college and career readiness standards. • Linked To Post Secondary Readiness: Performance standards will be aligned across grades and linked to post secondary readiness • Course-based Assessments: high school assessments will cover the course the student is currently enrolled in. • Increased number of test items

  4. Assessment Differences • A four-hour time limit • Assessments administered over two days: English I, II, and III EOCs • Increased number of open-ended (griddable) items

  5. 2011-12 State Assessments Note: 2011-12 STAAR EOC will impact first time 9th graders. Repeat Grade 9 students will not take the EOC nor the TAKS test.

  6. STAAR EOC Alternative Forms

  7. High School STAAR Phase-in * Exit Level Retests

  8. Typical EOC Assessments by Grade Note: 1) Any Middle School student taking a high school course (i.e. Algebra I) will take the appropriate EOC exam, and will NOT take the grade level subject STAAR test.

  9. STAAR Performance Standards STAAR, STAAR Modified, STAAR L Level I: Unsatisfactory Academic Performance Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance Level III: Advanced Academic Performance STAAR Alternative (Level I and II same as above) Level III: Accomplished Academic Performance Note: Standards for EOCs will be established by late spring 2012 followed by a Phase-In plan for implementation.

  10. STAAR EOC Performance Standards Performance Level I Level II Level III Unsatisfactory Academic Performance Satisfactory Academic Performance Advanced Academic Performance Minimum Score Not Passing Passing College Ready Note: Standards for the EOC exams will be set by late spring 2012. Students must retake the EOC assessment if they score below the minimum cut score requirement. There will be three re-test opportunities every year: Fall, Spring, and Summer.

  11. New Graduation Requirements Testing requirements for graduation will significantly increase. 4 Exit-level exams Social Studies Science Reading/ELA Mathematics 12 EOC exams World Geography World History U.S. History Biology Chemistry Physics English I English II English III Algebra I Geometry Algebra II

  12. New Graduation Requirements Credits Cumulative Score Requirement Note: Students have the right to retest on the EOC as often as they wish to do so. Students will be able to retake any test, even if previously passed, to get a better score to improve their cumulative score. Retakes will not impact GPA or class ranking. Please refer to EIA (Local). • EOC test results must be included as 15% of the students final grade for course credit • Three graduation plans: Minimum (22 credits), Recommended (26 credits), Distinguished (26 credits) Students must take 8 to 12 End of Course (EOC) exams Students must meet a Cumulative Score in each of the four content areas For a Recommended diploma, students must score Level II (Satisfactory) on the Algebra II and English III EOC For a Distinguished diploma, students must score Level III (Advanced Performance) on the Algebra II and English III EOC

  13. Cumulative Score Requirement For each content area, adding the score for all three tests must be equal to or greater than the passing standard times the number of tests. For example: Level 1 (Unsatisfactory) = 800 Level 2 (Satisfactory)= 1000 Level 3 (Advanced) = 1200 Total Score: 3000 3200 3000 3100 In the example above, if you take all three tests, the total score for that content area would have to be at least 3000.

  14. STAAR-M and STAAR-Alt Graduation considerations: • Minimum Diploma plan • Satisfactory and Advanced performance only (no minimum standards) • Cumulative Score not applicable • 15% of final grade rule does not apply

  15. Dallas ISD’s EOC 15% Implementation • EOC score will count towards 15% of final grade • Full credit for a course requires the final grade to be 70 or above (including EOC score). • GPA and Class Rank will NOT include the EOC score. • 100 point scale score conversion in development (see EIA Regulation) • Middle school students enrolled in EOC tested courses will take the corresponding EOC and NOT the corresponding STAAR exam

  16. Applying the 15%: Example 1 STUDENT EARNS FULL COURSE CREDIT

  17. Applying the 15%: Example 2 STUDENT EARNS FULL COURSE CREDIT

  18. Applying the 15%: Example 3 Partial Course Credit For Semester 1 Student Options: (1) Retake EOC (must achieve at least an 80) OR (2) Retake Semester 2 (must achieve at least 63 semester grade)

  19. GPA and Class Rank • GPA and Class Rank are determined based on semester averages. • EOC will count as 15% of the final course grade. • Performance on the EOC exam will NOT impact GPA and Class Rank. • Students are allowed to retake the EOC as many times as needed to meet graduation requirements. • Retake EOC exams will be included in a student’s final course grade only if the retake score allows a student to gain credit for the course credit (EIA Local).

  20. 2011-12 Accountability STATE • No State Ratings FEDERAL AYP • Ratings are expected and will include: • STAAR 3-8 • TAKS Grade 10 • Passing standard of 87% in Reading (was 80) • Passing standard of 83% in Math (was 75) • 95% Participation • On-time 4-year Graduation Rate • 90% Attendance Rate
