  1. Veterinary Medicine iQuest Project by Caitlin Clancy

  2. Tassajara Veterinary Clinic • Took a bit longer to find a mentor than originally planned • Mid- September we got a call from Dr. Elisa Dowd who was happy to teach me all about being a veterinarian • Dr. Dowd is a UC Davis graduate and the owner of TVC

  3. Shadowing • Followed Dr. Dowd around to appointments and assisted her when needed • Learned things like how to draw blood and take urine samples • Vaccinated an animal • Observed surgeries

  4. Kennel Assistant • After 2 months of shadowing I got hired as the clinic’s kennel assistant • I spent more time at the clinic and was getting paid • The job wasn’t fun during the week because I mostly cleaned but I loved working Saturdays because I was basically a Vet Tech for the day so I got a lot of hands of experience

  5. Music • Midway through 2nd semester I had learned pretty much all I wanted to learn about working at a clinic • I switched my focus to music • My new mentor was my voice teacher, Scott Hughes, who helped me work on all things involving music (singing, songwriting, and playing instruments)

  6. Blog • My favorite blog to write was the one about my first full day at the clinic. It explained the surgery I witnessed and the appointments I observed in a full 6 hours • For more blogs: http://mustlovedogs11.blogspot.com/

  7. I read James Herriot’s Dog Stories. Each chapter was a different story that Herriot experienced during his years as a veterinarian. My favorite story was about a lucky dog named Joshua who had an amazing recovery after a bad accident

  8. The Next Step • After I graduate from San Ramon I plan to attend DVC and then transfer into UC Davis

  9. In 5 Years.. • In 5 years I plan to have graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Animal Biology • After that I hope to be admitted into UC Davis Vet School

  10. In 10 Years… • In 10 years I plan on being graduated from Vet School as a registered veterinarian • I’m excited for my future and to have the job doing the thing I love most which is taking care of animals
