Born May 29th, 1961 in Leavenworth Kansas • Parents John Etheridge and Elizabeth Williamson • Younger sister of Jennifer Etheridge • Graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1979 • Was a member of the “Power Of Life” Music and Dance Group • Started playing Guitar at 8 years old • In her Teens, she played in several Country Music Groups Birth, Family And Music

Moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music • Played clubs and night spots while attending college • Quit school after three semesters to be a full time musician • Moved to LA to get her big break • Met Bill Leopold who would eventually become her manager at the urging of Bills wife, Karla Leopold • Nobody in the Industry was interested in Melissa, similar to Joan Jett Berklee College Of Music

Melissa was asked to join a music festival that was completely ran and produced by women. • Was granted a publishing deal with Almo/Irving Music, a branch of A&M Records • If not signed by the age of 25, she would just tour the US on her own. • Before she left on tour, Chris Blackwell of Island Records signed her to his label (Label mates were U2 and Bob Marley) West Coast Women’s Music Festival

Started her first album with producer Jim Gaines • The album ended up sounding more Pop than she had envisioned herself • Chris Blackwell did not like the album and it was rejected by the label. • She was given four more days in the studio to re-record the entire album. • Her self titled album was released on May 2nd, 1988 • Released 5 singles from the album, including the hit “Bring Me Some Water” • She was nominated for a Grammy, but did not win. Started work on second album on September 11th, 1989 • Did backing vocals for Don Henley’s album, The End Of Innocence during this period • Album reached number 22 on the Billboard Charts • Toured Extensively for the album • Four singles were released, but did not perform well. • The Single “No Souvenirs” did break the Billboard Hot 100 Single Charts Brave And Crazy

Released on May 17th, 1992 • Reached number 21 on the Billboard Charts • Released 4 singles that did not chart • Won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Female for the single “Ain’t It Heavy” • Album cover was considered scandalous because it showed her bare back • People started to question her sexuality Never Enough

Released on September 21st, 1993 • The titles is thought to be confirming that Melissa is in fact a lesbian • The album was on the Billboard charts for 138 weeks, peaking at number 15. • Four singles were released from the album. • “I’m The Only One” reaching number 8, “If I Wanted To” reaching number 16, “Come To My Window reaching number 25 • “Come To My Window” won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance for a Female • The Album has sold over 6 Million Copies, pushing the sales of her earlier albums to all sell over 1 Million copies each Yes I Am

  9. Released on November 14th, 1995 • Melissa’s highest charting album to date, reaching number 6 on the Billboard Charts • Three singles were released • “I Want To Come Over” and “Nowhere To Go” both being top 40 hits • The Album has sold over 2 Million copies to date Your Little Secret

Released On October 5th, 1999 • Reached number 12 on the Top 100 Charts • Album has sold over 500,000 copies, reaching gold status • Two singles were released from this album • The content of the album could indicate the start of issues with her long-term relationship with her partner Julie Cypher • The couple would have two children • (Bailey Jean and Beckett, borne in November of 1998) • Their father would later be identified as David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, Nash • The song “Scarecrow” was dedicated to the memory of Matthew Shepherd Breakdown

Release date July 10th 2001 • The album speaks about the split from her long time partner, Cypher and how she had started to heal • The album is drastically different from her others, it is more electronic in nature with a mix of traditional instruments • It charted at number 8 on the billboard charts • There was only one single from this album; “I Want To Be In Love” • Laura Dern and Meg Ryan sang backup on “Heal Me” Skin

Released on February 10th, 2004 • Charted at number 15 on the Billboard Charts and sold less than 500,000 copies • Two singles were released from the album, but didn’t chart • Melissa was diagnosed with Cancer later in 2004 • She started a new relationship with actress Tammy Lynn Michaels • Performed a tribute to Janis Joplin with Joss Stone at the Grammy’s after going through Chemo Therapy Lucky

Released October 18th, 2005 • Later re-released with the song “I Need To Wake Up” from the Al Gore Documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” • “I Need To Wake Up” was nominated and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song • The album went gold by selling more than 500,000 Copies • It Charted at number 14 on the Billboard charts • It contained several new songs including two cover songs. • Tom Petty’s “Refugee” and Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart” Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled

  14. Released on September 25th, 2007 • Charted at number 15 on the billboard charts • One single was released, “A Message To Myself” and went top 40 on the Adult Contemporary charts The Awakening

Released on April 27th, 2010 • Debuted at number 7 on the Billboard charts • Only one single was released, “Fearless Love” • It would chart on the Adult Contemporary charts • A more traditional rock album than previous albums • Received 4.5 stars out of 5 from Rolling Stone • She split from Tammy during this time. • They have two children together, Johnnie Rose and Miller Steven, borne on October 17th, 2006 Fearless Love

  17. Released September 4th, 2012 • Debuted at number 18 on Billboard Charts • A more Rock/Soulful record • Album title taken from a road of her hometown, Leavenworth • Rolling stone gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars • First album to have Melissa playing all guitars parts. 4th Street Feeling
