  2. Oil can be used as a power source • Oil can be used as a power source. Oil is used to produce electrical energy, mechanical energy, and heat energy. Oil is pumped through pipes to be cleaned and used. A rock called shale may also contain oil. When shale contains oil it is heated up to extreme temperatures to get the oil out. Settlers used oil on wagons, tools. They also used it as fuel for lanterns and lights.

  3. John D. Rockefeller • John D. Rockefeller was one of the first people to discover oil. He was a co founder of the Standard Oil Company. The company dominated the oil industry and was the first great U.S. Business trust. Rockefeller revolutionized the petroleum industry along with other things. He was the richest man and the first American worth more then a billion dollars. His money was mainly used to create the modern approach of targeted welfare of others. He was the founder of the University of Chicago.

  4. Petroleum • Petroleum was converted into many different fuels that we use today. You can get petroleum by oil drilling. John D. Rockefeller was a co. owner of a petroleum industry.

  5. Oil wells • An oil well is a common term for drilling into the earth’s surface to find and acquire oil and petroleum.
