  4. Location of Pakistan • Pakistan is located within the latitude and longitude of 30° 00 N, 70º 00 E. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is located in South Asia

A few facts about Pakistan • Founded by Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. • Pakistan emerged as an independent sovereign state on August 14th 1947. • Capital City: Islamabad • Total Area: 796,095 sq km • Religion: Islam • Population: 180 Million • Language: Urdu & English • Divided into 4 provinces: Sindh, Punjab, Khyber pakhtonkhawa, and Balochistan.

A few facts… continued. • Pakistan relies on its network of canals to run its agricultural economy. • Major Crops: Wheat, cotton, rice, millet, sugar canes. • Major Fruits: mangos, oranges, bananas, apples • Main Resources: natural gas, coal, salt & iron. • Cotton, textiles, sugar, cement & chemicals play an important role in the economy.

Geo Importance of Pakistan • Central asia is rich in natural resources and provides good market to world. • These central asian countries wants to develop a trade links with other countries. • But these states are land locked. • Pakistan lies in torrid zone.which means climate conditions in pakistan remains normal • Due to which the water of our seas remain open throughout the year.it does not freeze.so trade activities can be performed in every season.

  9. Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 – Article 25-A “The State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such manner as may be determined by law.”

Education System of Pakistan • Education in Pakistan is overseen by the government Ministry of Education and the provincial governments, whereas the federal government mostly assists in curriculum development, accreditation and some financing of research. • education system in Pakistan is generally divided into five levels which are follows:

Education System of Pakistan • In Pakistan, it generally requires four years in Sciences, Engineering, Arts or Business Administration such as BS, BA, BE or BBA and five years for bachelor degrees in Medicine (MBBS), Pharmacy (Pharm D.) and Architecture (B.Arch) after successfully completing 12 years of schooling. • If someone does not want to take the (Hons) path.he/she could do Graduation(pass) which reuires 2 year.

Minimum Criteria for Admission in MS/M.Phil • Sixteen years of schooling or 4 year education (124 credit hours) after HSSC/F.A. /F.Sc/Grade 12 equivalent will be required for admission in the M.Phil/MS. • The GAT-General (www.nts.org.pk/gat/gat.asp) conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score will be required at the time of admission to M.Phil/M.S. The GAT-General test is valid for a period of two years. • For award of M.Phil/M.S/Equivalent degree, candidates will either need to complete 30 credit hours of course work or complete 24 credit hours of course work along with a minimum of 6 credit hours for research work/thesis. • There should be at least 2 relevant full time Ph.D. Faculty members in a department to launch the M.Phil/MS/MBA programmes.

Minimum Criteria for Admission in Ph.D • For admission into the PhD minimum CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the Semester System) or First Division (in the Annual System) in M.Phil/M.S/Equivalent degree is required. • Subject Test • Course Work • Research Paper • Plagiarism Test • Foreign Expert Evaluation

  16. Minimum Criteria for Admission in Ph.D • Open defense • Copy of PhD Dissertation to HEC

Conduct of PhD Program • There should be at least 3 relevant full time Ph.D. Faculty members in a department to launch the Ph.D. program. • The maximum number of Ph.D. students under the supervision of a full time faculty member is five which may be increased to eight under special circumstances

  22. University of the Punjab • Established in 1882 at Lahore, the University of the Punjab is the largest and the oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It was the first to be established in the sub-continent in Muslim majority area. • The University comprises of • 4 Campuses • 13 Faculties • 9 constituent colleges • over 63 Departments, Centers, Institutes • 500+ affiliated colleges. • over 620 permanent faculty members involved in teaching/research • over 30,000 on campus students. • Annually about 350 exams for 450,000 students.

  24. Univeristy of the punjab (Gujranwala Campus) • It is for the first time in 123 year history of the Punjab University that it has established a teaching campus outside Lahore. Inaugurated by president of time General parvezmusharaf. • Gujranwala campus is located near AlipurChowk, Rawalpindi By-pass Gujranwala,punjab. It has an area of 81 Kanals. Which is now extended to 65 acres. • It has 37 classrooms, 1 Administration block, fully air conditioned and open shelves library,1 big multi-purpose hall and allied facilities i.e. Car Parking, Canteen, Book Shop and Grassy Lawns.

  25. Univeristy of the punjab (Gujranwala Campus) • Currently this campus has four departments and two new departments are underway • Information technology • Business Administration • Law • Commerce

Department of Information Technology • Department of information technology was started in 2003 with only one batch of MIT. • The department consists of 3 Computer labs.1 video conference room, 1 Server room,Faculty office and fully air conditioned class rooms • Offers following degrees • B.Sc (Hons) • M.Sc. (IT pass)

Bachelors of Computer Science • Admissions open yearly and consists of 90 students 45 in morning and After noon classes. • Students got admission on open merit basis. • Duration of B.Sc 4 years (8 semester) • Follows a strick curriculumn • Total ECTS 141 • Compulsory courses • 4 Elective courses • Final project

Lectures,Grading & Attendance • All the lectures were mandatory.if a student is not able to maintain 80% attendance in particular course.he/she is not allowed to sit in the exam. • Course score is calculated on the basis of cgpa between (1-4) with 2.0 lowest and 4 highest. • A student gets 2.0 if he/she gets 65% marks in the exam and 4.0 at 85%. • A student not able to maintain 2.0 in consective semesters is dropped out.
