  2. Elements of the Parable • JERICHO • “A certain man … fell among thieves” • “By chance a certain Priest … Levite” • “A certain Samaritan” • “Which of these 3 were neighbor to him?” • “He who showed mercy on him.” • “Go & do likewise.”

  3. Lessons of the Parable • Religious service (worship) does not replace our OTHER primary duty to God. Matt 22:39; Lev 19:33-34; Deut 10:17-19; Heb 5:1-3 • Serving Christ is a voluntary matter requiring spontaneous action. Gal 6:10 • There is a difference between serving God & doing good deeds. Rom 10:1-4; Matt 6:3-4; Col 3:23-25; Matt 25:34ff

  5. Summary • True religion is ALWAYS prepared to serve • It is OFTEN personal • It is ALWAYS voluntary • It is SOMETIMES spontaneous • It NEVER seeks a personalreward • It is UNCONCERNED about personalcost • It SEEKS the highestgoodof others

  6. The Samaritan • …teaches HOW to be a neighbor. • …did not represent any organization. • …understood that serving God required selfless personal responsibility. • Use your abilities, resources & opportunities to lead someone to the Great Physician!

Gospel Plan of Salvation • Believe Jesus to be Lord & Christ: Son of God John 8:23-24; 20:30-31; Mark 16:16; Rom 1:16; 10:9-10; Heb 11:6 • Repent or turn from your sins Luke 24:46-47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30-31 • Confess your faith in Christ Matt 10:32-33; Acts 8:36-38; Rom 10:9-10 • Be immersed in water Matt 28:19; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Rom 6:3-4; 1 Pet 3:21 • Live in obedient faith to the Lord Heb 5:8-9; 1 Peter 1:14; Rev 2:10
