The Draft Timetable • Issued sometime in advance (as early as we can) • Provides dates and times of most exams • Includes candidate number, season • Includes board – AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC • Includes level – GCSE, GCE • Includes element e.g. subject plus code • Includes component – e.g. paper 1 • It will not show the venue or seat number

Using the draft timetable • Check with them that all of their exams are listed and at the right level (higher/foundation) • If there is a problem then get your child to speak to their teacher • Note any TBA (oral, practical, etc.) • Note any clashes (see final timetable) • Get them to create a revision timetable

Personal Revision Timetable • From now up to their last exam • Pin it up at home for all to see • Plot the exams • Plot any family or personal events • Use colours to code events and times • Identify critical times (two major exams close together) • Split the day into thirds – 4 to 6 hours a day • Allow time off – R&R

  6. Final Exam timetable • Issued nearer to exams (April) • Includes same as draft plus - • Room – sports hall, classroom, 6th form or even off site • Seat number • Length of exam • Again check the details and contact subject teacher or Mr Roper if concerned

Detailed rules will be included with the final timetable • Breaking the rules could lead to disqualification from all subjects • Arrive at least 10 minutes before the exam • If a student is late their work might not be accepted • Black ink • No mobile phones • No talking • Bring all the equipment needed, students cannot borrow form other students during the exam • Clear plastic pencil case, etc.

  9. School Revision Sessions • Extra sessions are also run by individual departments • See separate timetable of revision sessions • Extra sessions run immediately before some key exams

  10. Exam Nerves • Practise exam questions under timed conditions • Use the exam board sites to download past papers and mark schemes (37303) • Have a clear timetable up at home • Breathing exercises to relax – internet search • Get there with plenty of time

  11. Exam preparation • Regular sleep • Regular exercise • Regular meals • Breakfast is very important • Complex carbohydrates that slowly release energy (bananas) not sugar rich sweet or drinks that give a quick burst then leave you feeling low.

  12. In the exam room • Wear comfortable clothes – remember that when you are sat for a long time you can get cold – layers • Take some water in a clear bottle • Get there early • Find your seat, relax, have a boiled sweet? • Marks per minute! • Plan the time • Go back and re read answers

  13. After the exam • Post mortems serve no purpose! • Relax, exercise • Refer to their exam/revision timetable and start planning for the next exam
