  3. “The Gun” • Setting: schoolyard, city, March, late 1900s • Protagonist: Derek • Antagonist: detectives • Conflict: crime/questioning • Climax: found out he killed a woman • Ending: twist • OS: “He runs…” he’s always running away • POV: 3rd

  4. “Finding Myself” • Setting: high school gym, 1970s or 80s • Protagonist: Jeannie Ryan • Antagonist: she worked against herself • Conflict: Jeannie can’t shoot a free throw/doesn’t care • Climax: makes the jump shot • Ending: tied up- all explained • OS: “Coach Eli said that I would know when it was right.” • POV: 1st person

  5. “The Secret” • Setting: moon, future • Protagonist: Henry Cooper • Antagonist: Dr. Hastings and crew • Conflict: he wants to know the secret • Climax: Dr. Hastings tells Henry the secret • Ending: cliffhanger • OS: “Henry Cooper had been on the moon for nearly two weeks before he discovered something was wrong.” • POV: 3rd

  6. “On the Outside” • Setting: 1930s, train from Detroit to NY • Protagonist: narrator/observer • Antagonist: Great Depression, capitalism • Conflict: lost boy’s father…hunger • Climax: father’s dead • Ending: twist- unexpected • OS: “I can’t remember when the boy got on the train.” • POV: 1st
