  5. Help on the library catalogue Researching a topic in environmental studies… How do I find journal articles?

  6. Steps to finding journal articles • Start by building a list of key words. • Define your topic. Think of key words, phrases and subject headings and how to combine them… • Be careful! Don’t choose a topic that is too broad or too focused.

  7. Choosing your topic • For example let’s use the current debates regarding public vs. private conservation of woodlands. • How could we find more information about our topic? • Let’s look at Finding Web Resources in the Brock catalogue…

  8. What about finding e-journals about our topic? • Go to our list of databases and decide which database would be the best to use for our search. • What would be the key words we should search to find articles on our topic?

  9. Topic Keywords • Woodlands • Private and/ or public • conservation

  10. Can we refine our search to get better results? • Of course! • Let’s try public and • Private and • Conservation and • (woodland* or woodlot* or forest* or ecosystem*)
