  1. The doctrine of Premillennialism. Jesus returns, sets up the kingdom at that time, and begins a thousand years reign on Earth from a throne in Jerusalem. At the end of that thousand year reign will come the judgment • The doctrine of Preterism. All prophecies and promises of the end AND Jesus’ return occurred at the destruction of Jerusalem. This makes all future things mentioned in the Scriptures finished and complete • Calvinism (The Sovereignty of God). This has God in complete and total control of everything having chosen in advance every detail of every life and every destiny

  2. Are these trivial or optional or matters of opinion? • Consider the following: • Premillennialists link EVERY passage in the Bible to their doctrine • Preterists link EVERY passage in the Bible to their doctrine • Calvinists link EVERY passage in the Bible to their doctrine • Are these trivial or optional or matters of opinion?

  3. Calvinism The doctrine is known for the “Tulip”

  4. Calvinism The doctrine is known for the “Tulip”

  5. Calvinism The doctrine is known for the “Tulip” T P U I L

  6. Total Hereditary Depravity Unlimited Election Limited Atonement Irresistible Grace Perseverance Of The Saints

  7. Calvinism The doctrine is known for the “Tulip” T The Sovereignty Of God P U I L

  8. The Sovereignty Of God Ephesians 1:9-12

  9. The Sovereignty Of God • In creation (Psa. 95:6; 24:1-2) • In the kingdoms of men (Prov. 21:1; Dan. 4:17; Jn. 19:10-11) • He would bless through the seed (Gen. 3:15) • He chose Abraham and his descendents (Gen. 12:2; 15:5) • He sent Jesus (Gal. 3:16; 4:4) • It is for whosever will (Rev. 22:17; Gal. 3:26-29)

  10. The Sovereignty Of God (Calvinism Style) • An exaggerated position where God not only controls everything, but every detail • “All things (re. Eph. 1:11) must be instigated by God. God must either rule or be ruled. God must either accomplish His will or be thwarted by His creation” • This position rules free will as impossible • Free will (Calvinist) destroys God’s Sovereignty • Thus, the doctrine has all things instituted and orchestrated by God only

  11. Total Hereditary Depravity. At birth all men are depraved wholly and totally. They are in this sinful condition because they have inherited it from their parents Unlimited Election. God, before the foundation of the world, arbitrarily chose to save some people and destroy others and nothing can be done to change God’s sovereign grace Limited Atonement. Christ dies only for the ones God had unconditionally chosen to save Irresistible Grace. An unregenerate person cannot voluntarily believe in God, but once God determines to save him, that same individual cannot overcome or resist the power of God no matter what he may desire Perseverance Of The Saints. Since man can do nothing but evil on his own, God’s unconditional election is required to save him. Consequently, one needs to do nothing to remain saved. If one’s salvation depends upon himself in any way, the miraculous work of God in saving Him would be overthrown

  12. Does Man Have Free Will? • Something like this: • The Calvinists say, “no” • The Arminians say, “yes” • What does the Bible say? • Genesis 4:7 • Did Cain have a choice? • Deuteronomy 30:19 • Were God’s words real or a sham? • Joshua 24:15 • Did Joshua make some grievous mistake in offering a choice?

  13. Ezekiel 33:11 • Can the wicked really “turn from his way”? • Acts 2:38 and 40 • Can you really be involved in your own salvation through obedience to God? • Romans 10:9-11 (re. Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21) • Is any of this real? • Was the apostle Paul so completely off the mark? • What does that do to the “Sinner’s Prayer” so favored by Calvinists?
