Identified key routes and hot spots with students, school leaders, and neighborhood leaders. • Partnered with volunteer-driven community patrols. • Cody: Brothers on Patrol • Osborn: MADE (Men Affirming Discipline and Education) Men • Denby: MAN Network • Data as of 10/20 shows significant reduction in incidents in patrolled areas among youth 16-21 between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Safe Routes to Schools Identified key routes and hot spots with students, school leaders, and neighborhood leaders. Partnered with volunteer-driven community patrols.   6. Operation CeaseFire Building upon current call in efforts by US Attorney’s Office and work of community organizers. Formed a planning committee representing stakeholder groups, to include: youth, clergy, service providers, and law enforcement. Worked with Department of Justice to identify technical assistance provider. Revisiting crime data and hot-spot analysis to appropriately identify pilot area. Targeting a soft launch in January.

Operations Safe Passage Offers in-school alternatives to exclusionary discipline (suspensions and expulsions) Underway in three schools: Cody, Osborn, Henry Ford High Schools Key elements include: Health and Wellness Training Restorative Practices Training Program Assessments Increased Parental Involvement Referrals to Service Providers

  8. Summer Strategy Build on Year-Round Youth resources. Engage corporate stakeholders to expand summer employment opportunities. Align community resources to provide meaningful learning and life skills opportunities for youth. Develop a comprehensive resource guide to increase the awareness of available programs, services, and safe spaces.

  9. Strengths Experienced leadership of the Coordinating Group. Strong and committee Steering Committee. Established partnership with Detroit Public Schools. Geographical alignment with Skillman Foundation’s Good Neighborhoods Initiative and United Way’s Turnaround Initiative. Data driven approach continues to drive strategy. High level of community and youth engagement.

  10. Challenges Recruitment of volunteers and sustaining momentum. Addressing environmental and service issues while facing budget constraints and aging infrastructure. Building a diverse steering committee and sustaining the commitment of key stakeholders over time. Effective and efficient coordination of resources. Implementation of effective monitoring and evaluation practices. Ability to raise and move funds in a timely manner. Expanding the awareness of current YVP efforts.
