  2. Reading and Writing Workshop • Mini Lesson • Small group and individual instruction, conferencing, and assessment of reading or writing with teacher while whole class reads or writes independently • Responding to reading or working within the writing process • Sharing

Focuses of Reading and Writing Workshop in 5th Grade • Reading Workshop: Thinking more deeply about the text, locating text evidence to support the thinking, and clearly conveying one’s thoughts through written responses. • Writing Workshop: Developing a more mature level of writing through word choice, sentence variety, and support for one’s ideas.

Quiz 20 point scale 96-100% = 20 pts.. 91- 95% = 19 pts. 86- 90% = 18 pts.. 81- 85% = 17 pts.. 76- 80% = 16 pts.. 71- 75% = 15 pts.. 66- 70% = 14 pts.. 61- 65% = 13 pts.. 56- 60% = 12 pts.. 51- 55% = 11 pts etc. Writers in Training (W.I.T) Writing craft lessons, grammar, and mechanics are practiced and tested. Quiz over skills presented and learned. Quiz grades are considered writing and language grades. Writers in Training (W.I.T.)

  6. New PARCC Assessment does not allow student use of calculators. Flashcards practice at home suggested Mad Minutes – 50 problems in 2 ½ min. Excellent resource: Student Reference Book (SRB) and www.everydaymathonline.com Non- Traditional and Traditional Methods used Pretests and Posttests used to individualize instruction Math

Math (cont.) • Tests– 100 points each • Quizzes – 50 points each • Daily Work – points vary per assignment • Weekly Math Review and Quizzes are averaged • Average of Weekly Math Review & Quiz– 10 point scale • 95-100% = 10 pts.. • 85- 94% = 9 pts.. • 75- 84% = 8 pts.. • 65- 74% = 7 pts.. • 55- 64% = 6 pts.

Friday Folder Parent signature required each week in folder and test papers Signature means papers and behavior form have been reviewed and discussed with student Folder due by Tuesday Behavior Gator – AIDE A= Attitude I = Integrity D= Dedication E= Effort 2 Gator Bucks per day Used to “buy” parties throughout the year Please see teacher to volunteer 5th Grade Expectations

Classroom Treats • Birthdays : • Caffeine free individual sized drinks only • Enough for class only – no extras • Daily snack: • Must be fruit or vegetable • Gator Buck parties and Classroom parties (Halloween, Winter Holiday, Valentines) • Must be peanut safe (not just peanut free) • Must be individually wrapped • Must be store bought – not homemade • Best choice – Fruits and Veggies
