  1. Year 1’s visit to Cogges Farm Museum

  2. We made our own planting pots out of newspaper and planted a seed…

  3. We looked at bees and why they are important to our world…

  4. Look at where bees make honey…

  5. We visited the herb garden and smelled herbs, our favourite was mint!

  6. We learnt that apple trees produce more apples if they are grown like this!

  7. Can you see the blossom on the apples trees?

  8. We watched people planting seeds under protective nets called ‘cloches’; they stop the birds from eating the seeds and seedlings!

  9. We walked this long path to the compost heap…

  10. Do you have a compost heap at home?

  11. We made our own ‘rot pots’ (compost). Can you see what we have used? Answer: - Straw - Vegetable peelings - Ready made compost to help it get started. - Cling film on the top to keep it warm. Toby didn’t like waiting!

  12. More compost making…

  13. Next we visited a wormery. We couldn’t believe how important they are for our soil! We all promised to never squish a worm again!

  14. We visited the old farmhouse kitchen… Could you cook on a stove like this?

  15. We made herb butter with dried herbs…

  16. Which dried herbs do you use in cooking?

  17. We now know where our eggs come from… …and our streaky bacon!

  18. Would you like to visit Cogges Farm? What healthy food could you grow in your garden? What would your healthy meal from the farm be?
