Early Life • Born in 1090 • Born in Burgundy France in the castle of Fontaine near Dijon • Parents: Tescelin, Lord of Fontaines, and Aleth of Montbard • His grew up in nobility and was sent to the the school at Chatillon when he was nine years old • There is studied Theology and Holy Scripture • He was a talented poet

Life as a Monk • After his mother died he entered the Cistercian Order and convinced 13 of his closets friends and family to enter • His father later followed in his footsteps and abandoned his materialist and sinful ways, his sister also was moved by his commitment to faith and entered a convent • Soon after entering he was sent to start a monastery, his monastery attracted many young men and he soon became the Abbott • He continued to found over 40 monasteries

Life as a monk • He was offered the position of bishop multiple times but denied it because he wanted to continue his monastic duties • He was asked by Pope Eugene the third to promote the crusades through out France and Germany but when they weren't successful he was ridiculed • He died on august 20, 1153 • He preformed his first miracle in 1121 by healing a mute man • He was also credited for healing many other people

Facts • He is a doctor of the church • His words were “so sweet” he became known as the Melifluous(full of honey) doctor • His feast day is August 20th • His brother, Humbeline, also became a saint • He was canonized in 1170 by Pope Alexander the third • He is the patron saint of bee-keepers, candle makers, Cambridge and wax melters

  6. Prayer • REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
