  1. 1 John 1:6-10Walking in the Light

  2. What is the Greatest Commandment? Matt 22:36-39 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

  3. How is the Greatest Commandment connected to Christ? 1 Jn 2:23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

  4. How do we Love Jesus? John 21:15-17 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

  5. How do we feed the sheep? Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

  6. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

  7. What must we know in order to feed the sheep? John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

  8. How did Light remove darkness? Ezekiel 36:24-27 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

  9. One Reason Why we were Recreated… Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

  10. Serving others while declaring the Glory of God John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease

  11. Our Featured Verses 1 John 1:6,7 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

  12. Walking in the light • Loving the Lord by Feeding the sheep • Feeding the sheep in the recognition of our complete dependence upon God • Recognizing that all Glory is on to God • Drawing all focus to God, not self

  13. Living a Lie 1 Jn 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  14. A Worse Lie 1 John 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  15. Walking in the Dark Means to… LIE to yourself, to others and to God about your sin - IT DOES NOT MEAN TO WALK IN SIN — ALL WALK IN SIN AND NONE CAN BE OTHERWISE.

  16. Humility in Feeding the Sheep 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  17. Confessing Sin • Are eternal consequences of sin in view? • No • What is in view, and why?

  18. 1 John 1:6-10 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  19. How then shall we live? • Love the Lord by feeding the sheep • Do so in humility knowing that it is God who is blessing others through you • God gets all the glory and you are to be centering all focus upon Him • Do all this while humbly recognizing your own sin and dependence upon God

  20. What does this teach about God? • His grace is greater than our sin • God uses sin, sinlessly • Remember John the son of Zebedee in this
