3. 3 Purposes of Dating • Socialization • To develop appropriate social skills. (use proper communication skills) • To practice getting along with others in different settings. • To learn about yourself and to build confidence.

4. Purpose of Dating • Recreation • To have fun and enjoy the companionship of others. • To try new and different activities. • Gain new experiences.

5. Purpose of Dating • Mate Selection • To see others in many different settings. • To compare the personality and characteristics of many people. • To learn about the opposite sex. Lightening

6. Get To know Yourself and others • Look at your 4 dating plans and evaluate each of them on the other side of the paper for how they follow, or do not follow, the 3 purposes of dating. • 3=You should write a book on dating • 2=Room for improvement so add some variety • 1=Sad. Your date, and you, deserve better • 0=Why even go on the date? • Could this be why you had the worst date? Explain: • Now Look at your ideal date and adjust it to meet the 3 purposes of dating. Change or add at least 1new idea to better the date.

7. $5.00 Date $$$$ get’s in the way of dating. Either we think we don’t have enough for the date or we spend too much on the date. Both influencing the dating experience! • In Your Study Guide the assignment says: • Your assignment is to go on a date! But, the catch is you can only spend $5.00, this does not include gas. Below is a list of suggestions from the boys/girls. Make sure your try and follow the items suggested by the boys/girls below. Be creative! The best way to do this assignment is to go with a group and put all the money together to help it stretch farther. Write a brief summary of what you did on your date and how the date went. 10. I Really Know You Now! • The most stable and meaningful relationships are between people who know each other well. (Superficial vs. Personal) • They use their mouths for talking. • Attraction to each other is NOT enough for the relationship to develop and survive. • What problems occur when the relationship progresses physically without the stability of knowing each other? • HOW Can we get to know each other better?
