  1. Louis Pasteur (1825 – 1895)

  2. Pasteur discovered the cause of disease Pasteur proved that yeast caused sugars to ferment into alcohol. He also found that wine went sour because of rod-like microbes. Microbes causing the spoilage of food became known as the Germ Theory of Disease His work led to the use of Pasteurisation to reduce food spoilage

  3. Pasteur also disproved the theory of Spontaneous Generation with his famous swan-neck flask experiment. Further support for Pasteur’s Germ Theory was when Robert Koch isolated the Anthrax bacteria and showed that it caused the Anthrax disease in cattle. Pasteur then developed a vaccine for Anthrax.

  4. Robert Koch (1843 – 1910)

  5. Robert Koch Koch developed techniques for: fixing staining photographing isolating culturing & identifying bacteria Using Pasteur’s Germ Theory, Koch was able to isolate Anthrax bacilli as the cause of Anthrax in cattle.
